Dustin Slater, former RUF leader at TCU and current RUF leader at Furman Univ. was hit by a car this evening and careflighted to a hospital where he has been rushed into emergency surgery to try and stop bleeding in the brain. Please pray for his family, wife and 3 kids, and for the many people he has impacted through his ministry. The doctors are giving him a 50-50 chance of making it. I will update as i get more information.

UPDATE:
thankfully Dustin made it through the night with no further swelling or bleeding. Please continue to pray that his condition will remain stable.

Further updates can be found hereThe Link

UPDATE and sorry i didnt realize i wasent logged in on either of the 1st 2 posts but ^^^ is me...

an email I recieved from someone who is getting info faster than i am...

Dustin Salter, who powerfully ministered at TCU for over 5 years with Reformed University Fellowship, has been in an accident and needs your prayers desperately in the next 36 hours. He and his family recently moved to South Carolina to take over the RUF group at Furman University.

He was riding his bicycle with his sons yesterday and was involved in some kind of accident and received a massive head trauma. He was flown to a hospital and went into surgery last night (11/8) around 7PM. The surgeons were able to remove the blood clots, but now we wait and pray.

The major danger is swelling in the next 36 hours. His brain was badly bruised. In fact, the neurologists said that he sustained the worst possible non-fatal head injury. The amount of swelling and other factors now will determine the difference between short-term memory loss, long-term memory loss, speech-impairment, permanent brain damage or even death.

In light of God's sovereignty and love, please pray:
1) that his brain would stop swelling
2) that God would stop any further damage
3) that God would reverse any current damage
4) that Dustin would be able to return relatively quickly to ministering the gospel to college kids
5) that his family would be healed from this
6) for divine wisdom for the doctors and nurses
7) that God would show His glory all around through this

prayers and hope all goes well...

UPDATE:

Sunday night:

Dustin remains in a medically induced coma, the goal of which is to help his body focus its attention on healing his brain. The doctors are planning on using this sedation medication for another 36 hours or so, periodically taking Dustin off of it to test his reactions, etc. Most recently, when tested, Dustin did show some positive signs … his reactions were of a higher order than they have been to date. His brain pressure has been a little lower, as well.

Tuesday will be a significant day, as the sedation medication will have run its course. At that point, doctors will better be able to say what the future may look like.

Dustin, his family, and all who know him will remain in my prayers. Please keep updates coming.

UPDATE:

Friday Nov. 17th

Although there has been a lot happening in the last two days, there is no dramatic change in Dustin’s condition. Here are relevant particulars:

* Dustin has received the tracheotomy and the PEG (feeding tube)
* the CT scan did not reveal much difference (positively or negatively) from previous scans
* the doctors have taken Dustin off of the sedative medication. He is therefore, not is as deep a coma as he has been.
* as a result, they have also turned down his ventilator. So he is breathing pretty much on his own.
* the doctors are continuing the anti-swelling medication though it sounds like this might soon have run its course
* Dustin’s GCS (Glasgow Coma Score) has not risen above a 5 — which means that things remain very serious.

Monday Nov 20th

There is no significant change in Dustin’s condition.

He is off of the sedative and is breathing on his own. The ventilator is unplugged. They do, however have him on a little bit of Oxygen.

At some point, possibly in the next day or so, Dustin will probably be moved from the ICU to a private room. That will happen once the port monitoring his intracranial pressure is removed and the anti-swelling medication is stopped. While being moved from ICU sounds like it would require an improvement in his condition, that is not necessarily the case. There has been no real change in his condition (positively or negatively) for several days now. It seems that we are just waiting …

As we wait …

Let us approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need (Hebrews 4.16).

Sorry it's been awhile since I have updated on this situation but this will unfortunately be my final update.

Today at 3:40 pm Dustin passed away. If you could just pray for his family and for the people that he reached through his ministry that would be appreciated.
