FYI, Victoria East HS, coached by Yulonda Wimbish-North, will play undefeated Brennan in a regional semi in San Antonio’s North East ISD’s Blossom Athletic Center at 6pm Friday, 02/24/12 at the Jimmy Littleton Gym. Address is 12002 Jones Maltsberger Road, San Antonio. You can call (210) 407-0000 for directions.

Yulonda played for Texas from 1984-1988.
 
Thanks for the link, Babhorn. I'm really not impressed with the UIL site. I struggle every year with getting to that bracket and then to the scores once the tournament starts. Has the playoff bracket been on the site for awhile?
 
not really sure when it went up. I was talking about Victoria with a friend because he is from there and he mentioned that Yulonda was coaching them. Then I remembered that Empress and her team, Duncanville, were probably in the playoffs, so I looked it up.

FYI, Duncanville will play Amarillo High in the regional semis tonight at FW ISD's Wilkerson-Grines Activity Center at 8pm for a regional 1 finals game with the winner of Lubbock Coronado or Irving Macarther.
 
Im at the irving vs. coronado game now. Alexis Jones = REAL DEAL 43 PTS 1 minute left in game.

Next game Empress n Duncanville.
 
Duncanville schooled Amrllo. They won by 30 i believe. Duncnvl n Irvng Mcarthr 2morw. It should b a good game. Im going w/ Duncnvl. Their defense will shut Alexis Jones down. Their defense is on point n they play team ball. Mcarthr is all Alexis.
 
thanks for the updates, cynt. nice to hear from someone watching the game. I would guess that Empress will D up on Alexis at some point. That matchup should be really interesting to watch.

half time 21-22 duncvl. Empress 2 Alexis 17. at the end of half coach put 2 defenders on alexis. She is the offense for Mcarthr. Once they shut her down they should pull ahead n win. good game as anticipated.
 
Duncanville will be coming to Austin! Congrats to Empress and her teammates. They got an OT win over Irving Mcarthur, 62-55. Looks like they will face Houston Cy Falls, a 59-52 winner over Alief Elsik, if I am reading that bracket correctly.
 
This was a heck of a game. Great game. Start to finish. Nailbiter to the end. Yes Empress was on Alexis like glue. There was also a Soph #20defending Alexis. Ive watched duncvl a few times this season. Today their shots werent falling like usual. These young ladies can absolutely win State. Imexcited in anticipation to see Empress on the 40 acres. Empress knows defense. They live it at Duncanvl. Of course she has to step it up at the college level but she has a solid foundation. Sometimes shes easily frustrated but as she matures this should go away. Shes confident and can take over. She iced two free throws in overtime after shooting bad all day. She played 1,2,3 so shes versatile and we can use her in several different ways. CONGRATS EMPRESS!
 
Vista Ridge falls to Victoria East.
Hadn’t realized that Victoria East was playing Vista Ridge. Got mixed feeling about the outcome of this one. I always pull for Central Texas teams to do well and get to the state tournament but I wanted Victoria East to make it because of Yulonda Wimbish-North. Hadn’t realized those two were matched up.

Duncanville (with Texas signee Empress Davenport) will play their semi final on Friday-time still to be set. I may have to take Friday off to go watch her and Duncanville.
 
AAS story on Liberty Hill. Got some info on other teams, including Abilene Wylie who is led by Peyton Little, a player some of us probably remember.
 
I love it that the women's high school games are getting some of the bandwidth these days. I get really frustrated when I see the same HS football championship game 20 times on the less prestigious sports networks. I'm glad they show them, don't get me wrong, but throw in some other sports instead of the 10+ replay of the same game.
 
anyone going to see Empress and Duncanville Friday afternoon? Lucky for me, it's optional day at work so I can take off to go watch this game.

Duncanville roster
I know it says 2010-11 but it lists Empress (# 11) as a senior so should be this season’s roster. Interesting that she is listed as 5-10. Either that is wrong or she has had a growth spurt since she is listed at 5-7 pretty much everywhere else.
 
Abilene Wylie and Peyton Little moving on to defend their crown. Little didn't score like she did in last year's championship game but she got her pts from the FT line and had some beautiful passes for assists.
 
exciting game with Mansfield Summit winning 40-37 over Barbers Hill. Summit is fast but had trouble with BH's 6-4 post.

Next up is Victoria East.
 
An other exciting game with Victoria East going down to Rockwall, 48-35. FTs at the end by Rockwall broke a back and forth game.

Strange that the prelims were on tv but today’s championships are just being webcast except for the 5A game which will be on TWC 430 and 1693(HD) in the Austin area.

Sudan is up 49-30 on Martin’s Mill in the 3rd right now.
 
Wylie is going to repear as 3A champs. Little has 31 pts on what started out as a poor shooting game for her. Shooting FTs, has 33 pts now. A&M got a fantastic player. She is an outstanding passer as well.
