U.S. Troops pose w/ body parts from suicide bomber

What does anybody expect?

The military turns young men into killing machines. Then they expect those trained killers to slip back into the social graces of normal, civlized society while they are still on the battlefield?

You can't have it both ways.
 
So these were pics of a muslim who killed himself? he was the killing machine?
not our troops?

yes it might incite more islamists
but how eould we know that hate from all the other hate they display all the time
 
The LA someTimes is pretty stupid for publishing these photos as is the idiot servicemen that gave them the photos.

It's a freaking suicide bomber....that probably just tried to kill you and ton of other people. I'm sorry, but if our troops want to pose with an idiot bomber's remains then fine. As long as they are safe. They put their life on the line every single day over there. If the islamic world was really trying to help matters maybe they would spend more time trying to stop the suicide bombers rather than getting pissed off becuase our troops posed with a dead one!

Unless you are a pure muslim (whatever that means) you are an infidel and these nut jobs want to kill you by whatever means necessary.

This is one area where liberals and conservatives (and even the libertarians!) can come together. They want all of us dead.
 
Has anyone read or seen anything that indicates we have any chance of a good outcome in Afghanistan?

I think we've blown the hearts and minds part of the strategy, but maybe there is some evidence otherwise?

If the people are not with us, we're wasting blood, money and time. I do hope we've set up a good intelligence resource there to use once we're out.

The soldiers shouldn't have done this, but I'm reluctant to go after a soldier in combat unless he does something like a war crime against a living person. This isn't My Lai or Abu Ghraib. It's just stupid.

First of all, Islam does not advocate killing anyone unless they are attacking you, and Islam strictly condemns suicide, so, yeah.

Secondly, yeah our troops are under fire, but where are they under fire? Chicago? Houston? Austin? No. They are in Afghanistan and Iraq. They are in the hornets nest. Big difference.

We shouldnt be there. We should be getting out of there ASAP.

Why couldn't the LAT just given those pics to the DOD? Why publsih them for the islamists to see?

If the LAT hadn't published those pics how many islamists would have seen them>'
And if they didn't see those then the islamists wouldn't hate us and they would not have a reason to kill us. right?
 
I don't think you really understand the function of the press in our society.

Stop thinking they are all like FOX News; an unofficial arm of the Republican party.
 
Mainstream press generally takes their orders from the White House. But these orders came from the Pentagon. Different animal, so they can be ignored. It is telling that the White House seems harder on the freaking 82nd Airborne than they are on the LA Times. Our world is messed up.

If the LAT had sent the pics to the DOD those soliders involved would have been punished while no other soliders lives would have been unnessarily put in more danger because of the pics
so why was it necessary for the LAT to put the pics out there knowing they will put more soldiers in greater harm.
isn't there some sort of journalistic code of ethics that includes to not jeopardize countless innocent people lives by heedlessly putting a story out?

For someone to think it was ok for LAT to do this no matter if more solders die as a result is pretty cold and vile.
I am guessing that poster doesn't have any relatives or friends over there.

but that is not what this is about is it?
isn't this about common sense regarding our military being at risk ?
I know you agree that the soliders who did this stupid thing need to be punished.
do you think leon panetta would not have punished them if the LAT had given him the pics?

What other good did showing the pics to the islamists do?

Yes a thousands times yes keep our first amendment strong and free but there are limits even to free speech. press

knowingly putting innocent lives in greater danger is one limit
 
Other than the soldiers being idiots, this is a non-issue.

This is not going to incite more terroists to do more against us, they already have enough plans. This does not enrage them even more, they already have their minds made up to kill as many infidels as possible. This is not going to encourage them more, it just gives them a conveniant excuse.
