Tyson Gentry of the Ohio State football team

Tyson Gentry is a 3rd year walk on player for the Buckeyes. He walked on as a punter, but was asked to help out at receiver on the scout team.

Last friday at practice, he took a hit across the middle and lay motionless on the field for 15-20 minutes. Reports were that he was alert, but had no feeling below the neck.

He was rushed to The Ohio State University Medical Center where he had emergency surgery that night. He had a second surgery today.

No word on his condition has been release per the wishes of the family.

Please extend a prayer to him.

Buckeye, Longhorn, Wolverine, Aggy...these kids play for the love of the game, and it is always tragi when situations such as this occure.

no updates as of yet, with the excpetion of a player who was right there when it happened, LB Marcus Freeman, saying Tyson said he had no feeling from his chin down.

Columbus -- Three weeks ago, injured Ohio State football player Tyson Gentry, confined to a wheelchair since breaking a vertebra during a Buckeye scrimmage this spring, was talking about what his sister, Ashley, has done for him.
"She's treating me well," Gentry said. "Everything she's done for me, she's made a lot of sacrifices to be with me."
Ashley, who's been living with and caring for her brother while he continues as a student at Ohio State, had a moment of hope Tuesday night. According to Ohio State officials and coaches, when she pulled off her brother's left shoe, he moved his toe.

While Gentry is able to move his arms, movement in a part of his body that far away from his neck injury was a reason for optimism seven months after his injury occurred.
"That's huge. This gives him a lot of hope," Ohio State wide receivers coach Darrell Hazell said Wednesday. "He's ecstatic and his family is ecstatic. It's a good feeling right now."

Gentry took the field at halftime of Ohio State's game with Penn State on Sept. 23, joined by former Nittany Lion Adam Taliaferro, who walked four months after breaking a vertebra against Ohio State in 2000. And Gentry remains around the team. Hazell said the walk-on receiver is constantly asking to watch more game film.

"He's been a great inspiration for all of us," Hazell said.

I read an article that said he has moved two toes on one of his feet (I can't recall which one.) And that he has some sensation in his legs (like, he can feel pressure) but he is still unaware of hot/cold feelings.
