TX vs Baylor game 2

Kim up coaching !!!
Karen sitting on her *** with elbows on knees...
Time to go to Oregon and open the check book Mr Del Conte !!!!!!
Better yet...Go to Waco and get Kim !!!!!!!!!
Meh. Is her standing up going to somehow make her offense not as modiocre? Is Baylor’s defensive length going to shrink if she stands up?

That was embarrassing! Baylor is so much more athletic and better coached than us. I sure hope CDC sees the mediocrity of the program and makes the tough decision! Like he did in softball.

Joyner was 4-18 shooting. No one else took more than 8 shots. I guess the game plan was Green Light for Holmes.

Where did Sug and LaShan disappear 2
Ding, ding, ding. Looking at the box score not impressed by either team offensively. Cox, Smith, and Cooper had good games but overall Baylor was so so offensively. Texas’ offense once again was the issue.

Woefully unprepared to beat Baylor...again. Not coached up. Among the many hard aspects of watching great UT talent shrink under the lights is knowing that all they really need is some real coaching up, some confidence-building skills development and a coach who cares enough about the University of Texas to hire people who can help her succeed at Texas - rather than surrounding herself with "staff" she bullies into silence. What a joke. Those assistants are mutes and maybe that's okay at LeTourneau U. or some mid-major hotbed - but at Texas you need to f'in earn your keep. Too many coaches - including Aston - have inflated egos and matching bank accounts - who haven't really earned their position. Karen was an okay hire that's getting exposed as a leader and tactician...one more time. Enough. Please put the players and yes, fans out of this misery. It's beyond embarrassing.

Some of that may be true but the reality is that Sug has struggled against the average teams in conference while Celeste was going off.

:hookem::hookem:Congratulations to Karen Aston and her so called coaching staff. Another loss to add to their impressive record vs Baylor. We should be getting our next win in one of the next 19 games with Baylor.

dont we all feel proud.

Actually, it usually has been about having the talent. Their talent has always been anywhere from just a little bit better to quite a bit better. Tomorrow night, I give us an 8% chance. When you think about it, they do have more talent. Lauren is a steadier player and better shot than Joyner at the 4. They have two very good posts to our one. Juicy is the best three point shooter in the country, I believe, or at least I think in the Big 12. Cooper is about as solid as Sug. We don't have a good match-up for D.D. Richards at all. Moon is a stronger sub than Izzy or probably Allen-Taylor at this point, has more experience. I hate to be so blunt about it, but its just not accurate to say it is always a coaching difference, that we have equally good talent.

Disagree JoeDallas. The reason you perceive Baylor has more talent is because Coach Mulkey is able to improve on her player's talents and putting her players in the best position to utilize their talent. Aston wastes her players' talents.

Depending on which recruiting service, Lauren Cox and Joyner Holmes were ranked #1 & #2, or #2 and #1 out of high school. When I saw Nalyssa Smith play in high school, I referred to Nalyssa as a poor-man's Joyner Holmes because their style of play was similar. It's sad to see that Nalyssa Smith, a true sophomore, has surpassed Joyner Holmes, a senior, because Coach Aston is unable to develop her talent and put Joyner in the best position to accentuate her strengths and shield her weaknesses. I should call Joyner a poor-man's Nalyssa now.

It's Karen Aston's fault that Joyner is not a great shooter and has struggled four years to make the ball go in when she is right under the basket? I just don't buy it. My guess is that the coaches have tried everything under the sun to help Joyner with her shot. People have different talents, and shooting touch is just not Joyner's strength. On the other hand, I hadn't thought of it, but reading this board, maybe Joyner would become a wonderful shooter if Karen would just stand up.

It’s not about shooting as long as she is slashing! :smokin:

You assume they both have the same ability and wilingness to learn. I think that's a poor assumption.

I also remember back when Cox and Holmes were being recruited I posted here Cox was the better player and I was told how wrong I was.

Hmmmm...talent is as talent DOES. (thank you Mr. Gump). It's true. What good does it do to have talent on a roster that's never developed or under-developed? That's the measure of success -- what you're able to get that talent to DO with those gifts. So - on paper, easy to mouth off about talent - oh, they have more talent or we have more talent but who cares if we're better than Baylor or whomever - on paper? it doesn't really matter that we can SIGN talent if we can't ALSO develop it. Sheeeesh! What in the hell?

Lots of teams with talent that won't make it past first or second round. We could be one of them, clearly. The bigger argument and angst here is always the same - WHY AREN'T WE BETTER? And that answer is not going to change - because our coach does not get better - and her sin is passed down to the team. Period. Karen has to value "being better" and in turn, the players she recruits and signs will know that "being better" is required at the University of Texas. Better will be the result - and better will be expected of everyone - coaches, players, staff, etc. Mr. Del Conte, hope you're taking notes. Karen's not better perhaps b/c she hasn't been "required" to be better. And that is bull-turkey!

The coach can't make the ball go in. However, the coach can develop offensive schemes that give their players the best opportunities to score. Cranking your arm on the sideline (when you're not pouting on the bench) and encouraging your team to play at a frenetic pace with high turnovers isn't a scheme that does that IMHO.

I do have to give credit to the players, especially Celeste, for continuing to play hard and with energy in what must have been a very difficult situation.
