TX at TTU game 2

So, I wanted to put this here in response to my post about Joyner maybe blowing up in the WNBA. I remembered seeing this tweet from Didi Richard's dad after the national championship last year so I went back and found it. So, it just makes me wonder if Ariel was, and now maybe Joyner are being held back from how they would naturally play. I realize that SOME of Joyner's mistakes are on her, but I just wonder what if......

YES! Coach Aston's substitution patterns are exactly that, one mistake - sub.

I certainly agree that Aston has a distinct style or philosophy on the substitution pattern. Lots of coaches will immediately substitute for a player that gets a foul. The theory is that the player may be steaming and will get a second foul real quick and then have to sit a LONG time. So sitting down for a few minutes helps that. I have alternately agreed/disagreed depending on how my day had gone. In Aston's style, I don't think it was substituting immediately after a foul that most disagree with. It is a change would just come on any mistake. I always thought that it was because she had so much depth and wanted the competition for playing time to be a factor. Not sure that was correct. Now that she doesn't have that depth, I haven't noticed the quick subs as much. One thing that drives me crazy is when a mistake is made, a coach reacts quickly and calls for a player off the bench...…….then subs for another player in the game that didn't make the mistake. I have seen Aston do that at times and I am....what??? The players do notice per Didi Richards comment shows...….as playing time is a huge issue always. Players have to take that long walk back to the bench with everyone looking on and it is not pleasant feeling.
