Please keep two families that are friends of ours in your prayers this week as they have both lost their sons, violently.
One family lost their son when a driver was going westbound in the eastbound lane on 290 near Hempstead. Matthew was 18, a college freshman at U of H, returning to campus from a visit with friends, to Austin. There were 2 cars of young men, the first swerved to miss the wrong way driver and continued on. The second car was not so lucky. Three of the four in the car were killed as was the other driver. The guys in the first car did not find out about the other car until they returned to UH. Matthew's family is a part of our extended "softball family".
Daniel was a 21 year old young man, beat to death with a baseball bat, by a neighbor in his apartment building. He was apparently killed in an argument over a ride or money owed for a ride. He was a student of mine, as was his sister, and his mom works at the school where I taught for many years.
Neither boy was "hanging with the wrong crowd", both were good kids, just in the wrong place at the wrong time. And their families desperately need all the prayers anyone can offer for strength and peace in understanding such awful occurences.
Thanks all.
