I am having surgery and will be on the couch for a week. I need to go rent a bunch of DVDs to kill the time.

Suggestions?

My coworker has suggested Heroes, Nip Tuck or 24.

I've already seen West Wing, LOST and Six Feet Under.

Thanks!

I don't remember if you have chimed in on the threads of these programs but if you like Science Fiction you need to get Battlestar Galactica. If you like crime drama, The Wire. Any and all seasons of them.

If you don't get all the store has to offer you will be bumming wanting to watch more.

Speaking of BSG check out this "Last Supper" pic:

The 2 seasons of The Office UK. quick episodes and you can watch the entire series in a day or so.

I think I am going with BSG, maybe Band of Brothers.

(I am caught up on Entourage and the Office. I've seen all of Arrested Development and UK Office.)

Big ess, have you seen the Wire? I really cannot endorse it enough. You will be very glad you saw it. If you have seen it you can back up my support of it.

Good call on BSG. Make sure you watch the mini-series or pilot first, then start with Season One. This is important. Also, if you find the episode or series titled, "Razor", do not watch it till the end of what you can get. It fills in gaps left in the storyline on purpose.

The Wire is absolutely the best thing you could watch. Arrested Development and Sports Night are two really good suggestions, and if you do Sports Night know that the terrible laugh track goes away pretty quickly.

The next series I buy will be the Wire.

I would recommend 24 as a series to watch on DVD.

I think I am going to go today to buy the first season of the Wire...

only start watching the wire if you want to commit the next month or two to watching eps. once you start, you won't be able to stop.

Deadwood
Rome
The Office
Scrubs
Top Gear, if you can get it (it's from BBC. It's also available on BBC America and BBC America On Demand)

Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia is one that you will not want to stop watching...even if you have seen the episode before.
Season One of The Shield will get you hooked but I think Season Two or Three were the best.

I just saw Band of Brothers, which is one of the best mini-series ever. It is outstanding.

PBS' War is also great, if you are into documentaries.

Firefly is a seriously great sci-fi show. You can also see all the episodes online at Hulu.com

Lost is a great watch as well.
