I don't claim to know everything about baseball and the announcers are not saying anything but how is what the UTA pitcher is doing not a balk. His body and his step are going toward home plate but he just throws to first. I thought you had to step towards the base to not ballk. Someone please inform me of the rule. Thanks.
The pitcher must step directly and gain ground toward a base in an
attempt to pick off a runner. “Directly” is interpreted to mean within
a 45-degree angle measuring from the pivot foot toward the base the
pitcher is throwing to or feinting a throw.
