Tropic Thunder

I didnt want to see this and then two of my friends, whose take on movies I usually agree with, recommended it so I saw it. I guess its just not my style of movie. I only laughed two times, and both were at Robert Downey Jr. Jack Black is still zero for his entire life in making me even laugh at anything, and Ben Stiller has made me laugh maybe 2 times in his entire life, neither of those two times ocurred in this movie.

Seriously, how could anyone NOT know he was going to come running back across the bridge at the end. How could you NOT know he was going to be sitting next to Lance Bass at the end of the movie. It just goes on and on, every single gag Ben Stiller ever does is just so ******* predictable and obvious. I dont know.. his **** just doesnt ever do it for me. And Tom Cruise basically just screamed a bunch.
 
I thought it was pretty funny. I rank the comedies of this summer

1. Step-Brothers
2. Pineapple Express
3. Tropic Thunder

all were worth my money though
 
May be I needed to laugh out loud at something inane, maybe my tastes have unpredictably skewed toward the stupid...

I like it. I laughed out loud numerous times and was really interested to see the first black face since Stir Crazy (at least the first I can recall). Downey Jr was great and his character was really funny. Jack Black wasn't too bad, and I usually find him to be extremely annoying. Ben Stiller's contribution was relatively weak, but the pyro guy rather made up for such shortcomings.

I don't see these kinds of broad comedies very often and I almost never feel compelled to think about or discuss them afterwards. **** like Dumb and Dumber, Kingpin, and Superbad just don't get it for me. Blank (though McLovin had a couple of choice moments).

I think Tropic Thunder was good. Prolly won't go out of my way to see it again, but i enjoyed it thoroughly while in the theater, which counts for something.
 
i think its a classic, its mockery of the film industry and some of its major players was well done. it is the best movie stiller has done, not saying much, but it had many laugh out loud moments. cruise as the weinstein like character was freaking brilliant. downey had me crying in some spots.
 
Wow where to start? I like both Black and Stiller because they're unconventional, certainly not your typical Hollywood leading men.

Black was hilarious in Saving Silverman and Orange County. Stiller the same in something about mary, heartbreak kid, zoolander. I also thought Kingpin and dumb and dumber were off the charts funny.



Tropic Thunder was funny. But I went in with high expectations and I was a little disappointed. Still glad I saw it.
 
The majority of movie-goers will like it and it's as simple as that. This can not be argued with any reasonability. That a miniscule few did not care for it is not really all that surprising. Too each his own.

Also, as far as the "guilty pleasure" put into the trailers, I could not agree more. Freaking hillarious!

Stiller: It’s what we do, right?

Downey: Everybody knows you never do a full retard.

Stiller: What do you mean?

Downey: Check it out. Dustin Hoffman, Rainman, look retarded, act retarded, not retarded. Count toothpicks to your cards. Autistic. Sure. Not retarded.

You know Tom Hanks, Forrest Gump. Slow, yes. Retarded, maybe. Braces on his legs. But he charmed the pants off Nixon and he won a ping-pong competition? That ain’t retarded.

You went full retard, man. Never go full retard.
