Tournament Terry--that's his name!

I am not in favor of teams that are five or six games under .500 in conference getting bids to the tourney. Objectively, neither the Horns nor the dirt burglars should get in.

WB,

While I totally agree with you, I strongly believe no D-1 football, no March Madness. Let them go to their own tournament with their attendance in the 100s and TV contract in the thousands. Football has that playoff situation, why not basketball?

But, but, but, Cinderella is so much fun. BULLETIN! Cinderella, like everything else to come out of Disney (including 30 on 30) ain't real

Kind of like HS fb playoffs in Texas. Win two games against teams that are worse than you in district and go as the 4th seed only to get smoked in the bidistrict round. It’s all about the Benjamins. Oh, and playoff
t-shirt sales.
I don’t believe that’s what Buzzy Keith envisioned when his plan was implemented getting the top two teams in the playoffs.

Refresh my memory on why we got rid of Barnes. We got Shaka,Baird, and Terry. None can beat Barnes. I know,He just always was one and done in the tournament. I would still rather have him.

My memory escapes me at times, but I believe Barnes could’ve remained at Texas if he agreed to firing some assistants. He wouldn’t and the Vols pretty much hired him soon thereafter.
I’m sure there’s more to the story, but that’s one thing I recall.

His teams were not especially entertaining. Lemons's and Penders' teams may not have won as many games as Barnes'..but they scored points and the games were fun for spectators.

Must’ve came down to winning. Barnes last season at Texas wasn’t great, especially the conference record and standing. Steve Patterson might’ve been another reason. Don’t really know.

Longhorns really need Boise state to lose. New Mexico is handing this game to them late. conspiracy! if Boise state wins this game, Longhorns really need Utah State to win that tournament. I hate having to root for/against other teams to possibly get in. so frustrating.

If it's Colorado State vs. Boise State in the Mountain West conference championship, Texas will fall to NIT most likely. 👎 Lunardi has both those teams in the first 4 out. worst case scenario. go Utah State Aggies!

Yeah Steve was definitely part of it.

From a basketball standpoint, that roster was supposed to be our "big" stretch group (Turner, Holmes, Ridley, Lammert, Ibeh), but instead of playing physical and dominating underneath, we were soft. Barnes wanted Turner -- arguably our best recruit in years and a guy who has averaged 29 min/g and 36% from three in the NBA -- playing a power block role, and because he refused, he came off the bench for the vast majority of the season and quite literally shut it down when the team was floundering.

I think Steve-O talked to too many people saying that the team had given up on Barnes when really it was just Turner (and Ibeh was taking cash on the side, but that had little to do with our success). Give Barnes the 2016 roster, and I think he'd probably finish with 25 wins. Springmann needed to go and be replaced by Jai Lucas, but hindsight is 20/20.

I really think, as previously stated, it had a lot to do with 1 & done at the big dance. If Rodney is "Tournament Terry", then Barnes was "Regular Season Rick." I was concerned with Barnes' tourney record when we hired him. He had great regular season teams & produced top seeded tourney teams on the regular, but I distinctly remember his #2 seeded Clemson team being one of the 1st ever 2 seeds to lose to a 15 seed. IIRC, he seldomly won more than 1 tourney game regardless of his seeding. Even though he had a couple of excellence runs, his Final 4 team was somewhat a distant memory by his last season here.
I don't mean to talk smack about Rick. I think he is an good coach (albeit with a very so-so tourney record) & a good person. I didn't (& still don't) believe he was going to get us to the next level (challenging for Final 4 & Natty).
And then, of course, there was Patterson...the walking hand grenade with the pin pulled.
