Torrea Peterson chooses academics

Say what you want about other schools having weak academics, the past few years I've been in classes with athletes that are hardly scholars. I've also noticed their absence whenever we take final exams.

As a whole Texas academics wipes the floor with OU, but in general, of course there are exceptions to every rule, I'm not going to pretend our players are anymore academically focused than theirs.

What he meant was great academics that he can pass or handle. That is what is great about them, they are virtually non-existent.

Oklahoma = Great Acadmics? Would someone please elaborate?

The discussion of academics is always a humorous one. First, getting a college education at all is an accomplishment. I think people would be silly to say that you can't get a decent education at Oklahoma. As mentioned, people are also silly if they think the majority of college players are taking harder classes at UT compared to Oklahoma. However...What I do knock a player for is talking about wanting great academics and then choosing to go to a school like Oklahoma as opposed to Texas, Michigan, Cal and the private schools.

What depotdog meant by "weak" is that he could not comprehend it to the level of being able to comment further on it. Something like that.

Texas does a very good job with the football program in terms of making sure most of them are getting real degrees. We have many players who graduate in 3 years and go on to earn a master's degree, many who are in honors programs, many who double major and graduate with 2 degrees. I actually think the UT football program is exemplary in terms of the focus they put on academics. And I also think it scares off some recruits who are looking for an easy ride.

Sam Acho had some interesting comments about why he chose Texas over USC and some of the other schools that offered him. A program-wide focus on academics was part of it. He's a business honors major, by the way.

At the end of the day neither school does a good job in the academics department for their football student athletes. When both schools are graduating less than 50% of their football players then neither side has much to brag about.

Graduation Rates

Yes. Why not come to UT? In just 3 short years of classes at our fine university you can score 6 on your wonderelic exam.

Hey, Drake's here too.
You know what would be really cool? If someone would start a sooner fan board so these folks could talk smack among themselves. Then they wouldn't have to come over here and foul a TEXAS LONGHORN board.

Did I take a nap and miss the fact that this is turning into a sooner board or something? I thought those guys had their own neighborhood to play in.

Agreed okie academics isn't all that challenging, but I kinda seriously doubt Peterson picked the paper clips because he wants to graduate Phi Beta Kappa, despite anything he said. I also can't get into bagging on him for his choice, given that he apparently wasn't too much of a Horn priority.

Just sayin'...it seems to me the academic smack would be a lot more relevant if we were talking about potential Rhodes scholars we're recruiting. Not many of those are gonna make it in football.

I am sort of proud of our low graduation rate.

Makes the degree mean something.

Tech I believe kicks everyone's *** in graduation rate.

But wait!! Didn't Oklahoma's governor, when he was pimping OU in that commercial, say that OU had the highest number of National Merit Scholars per Captain Kangaroo? That's gotta mean something!

I seem to remember OU demonstrating it's overall academic quality by showing a football player lifting a ballerina. This of course makes perfect sense.
