today's game

What next? Walk, single, wild pitch, error, then Lusson tries to advance to second and gets thrown out. Now man on third, 4-2 score, two outs, 3-2 count...foul ball, Marlow batting. Marlow walks, still a glimmer of hope.

c'mon Payton

And Payton strikes out to end the game after being up 3-0. He took two strikes, then swung at a good pitch, but missed.
I don't think we will get a regional invite, but we'll see. Yet another runner stranded at third.
Is the selection on Monday?

On the bright side, we did score 2 more runs today than yesterday's game...wow...2 runs in 2 games. Not gonna win like that. Pack'm up and go home.

The 'Horns lose to: 1) a Mizzou team that was barely above .500 (but below .500 in conference) during the regular season; and 2) a Kansas team that was 10 games under .500 (and not much better in conference) during the same time frame. I think that should just about end any further discussion about going to the tournament. Based on its performance over the last week or so, this team would just embarrass themselves further.

It sickens me to say that.

John Curtis "felt a twinge in his elbow," per post-game radio show. Could be minor, but it might be more than that.
That fact in itself could influence the selection committee to omit the Horns from regional play. We are wiped out due to injuries.
I hate to say it also, but it wouldn't hurt my feelings if we were omitted from regional play. Where's the starting pitching going to come from? Where are the bats? Where are the gloves?

Texas will get a bid but 2 and que is the most likely outcome next week as well. This season needs to be put out of its misery and soon.

^^^ You're probably right about the bid 'cause even an average Texas team will put lots of warm bodies in the seats. Still, they really don't deserve to be there.

I am sad, and I am sorry to say this. For the first time in over 25 years of following my horns, I feel that I would rather not see them play any NCAA games. This season has been so painful and without hope. Just no hope.

Let us just end it and do whatever we can, next year. Fire some coaches (not necessarily Augie), fix some of these problems in recruiting etc, and let us start doing something. We are just aimlessly coasting to nowhere, and just progressively getting worse..,

There was once a coach who had won several national champtionships, and contended for several others. Each year his team was one of the best in the country, but then starting slipping. He kept his assistants around even when the recruiting starting going bad and his assistants refused to change when the game started changing. His team grew undisciplined, with mutliple players getting into trouble every year. They starting losing games to sub .500 teams, and that slippery slope led to even worse recruiting.

Bobby Bowden was eventually forced out of his job, even though he didn't want to leave. And now, with a new coach, the FSU football team is back in the preseason top ten, and they should have a great year.

As much as I love AG and what he has done for our University, at what point does Deloss say, "enough!"? Can you blame all the problems this team has had on injuries? Or did this team give up on Augie?

I don't know when Augie wants to go, or if he should go. But the comparison to Bobby B is beginning to get too close for comfort. I would love to see AG go out on his own terms, after another trip to Omaha. But I'm beginning to wonder if he will be around long enough to take a team back to our North Campus.

I've seen alot of posts saying he should go, and a lot saying he should be able to stay as long as he wants - and I'm not sure either side is 100% right.

Thoughts?

When they did what you suggested to Coach Gus there were several dark years here after. 1998 comes to mind. If you want to go through that again you are a lunatic.

You do remember who the coach was in 1998, right? Whoever takes over after Augie will probably struggle for a couple of years. Hell, even the great Augie himself struggled when he first got here. We have to at least expect some slip. It's the potential upside that we have to keep in mind.

Not that anyone really cares what I think, but I'll wait to see what Augie does this off-season before deciding whether I believe it is time to make a change at the top. I think Augie is still the best person to have at the top if he can recognize when there is a need to make changes in his staff. Mack did it. Let's see if Augie follows his lead.
