Through the Looking Glass of Southern Hospitality

I heard screaming and bullwhips cracking....

In subsequent interviews and depositions, Weber says employees revealed that Greenbaum's (owner of restaurant) not-so-secret policy — that was seriously called "Southern Hospitality" — prohibited, then limited, the number of black hostesses, cocktail waitresses and bartenders on busy nights; limited blender drinks that he thought would appeal to black people; and intentionally delayed service to black customers.

A former bartender said: “Greg is convinced that blacks in the bar area will ruin his business ... Greg has the ability to determine the differences of his white guests, but to him all Blacks in the bar are bad for business.

Because we all know deep south juries invariably return the correct verdict.

The blacks on the jury were probably Ann Coulter Republicans, which means they're really white.

So Perham I guess you're just going to ignore the facts brought up which completely refute your argument. That's about par for the course with you.

So out of hundreds of possible bartenders/wait staff/hostesses etc that they interviewed they found one guy to make these statements....

Well, yes, they obviously did find one guy.

This is one big problem I have with our legal system. The attorneys have pretty wide discretion in their opening and closing statements. You take maybe 10 people to testify (and the guy in this case only did a video testimony) and 9 people tell one story and one tells a different story.

They just want to be fair and balanced, dude. Do you have something against being fair and balanced? You know, like how there are two sides to evolution/creationism? 99% of scientists (probably more) accept evolution, 1% don't but we still have to report on that 1%, right, and make it look as if the two sides are comparable?

Fair-and-balanced, that's my middle name.

Interesting post Perham. I like your strategy. Throw up stuff and act all righteous. Get exposed. Then act like it was all a joke anyway.

We are all just having fun anyway.

I don't find racial discrimination to be a laughing matter.

I also don't find a quick jury verdict proof that discrimination did not take place.

No, he is just sitting there laughing and going watch me get these guys all riled up, as we all know you can't be that far off your rocker!!!!!!

The problem is that dopes like Perham start threads like this and further damage a business based on allegations with no basis in fact.

Since I've been banned from making new posts on West Mall others must share your views of me.

First, this was a front-page article in the NYT, so I doubt that my post has much of an effect.

Second, when was this suit filed? How long ago? Has the suit or the publicity thereof hurt the restaurant?

How is that for douching it up?

I have no information on whether it hurt their business or not.

Yet you can make this claim:

I doubt any upscale bar/restaurant could survive in Atlanta with a reputation for discrimination.

So clearly the NYT article, and my post, and the filing, and the lawsuit, had no effect on the restaurant (which contradicts your claim) since if it did, the restaurant couldn't survive. So which way do you want it?
