This Team Is Tired

I think Rick Barnes is tired. I know I'm tired of him. Does anyone really believe that he'll get Texas back to a Final 4?

We don't have enough depth. I was wondering 2-3 weeks ago if this would eventually catch up to us, and apparently it has.

i don't buy the depth issue - i blame the lack of following game plan and players not being held accountable for upholding the gameplan - also lack of adjustments by our coach - someone please ask rick on his call in show if he has ever heard of a zone when his man to man can't stop dribble penetration or a box in one on the hot hand - i have a meeting and won't be able to call in

I agree. They are tired. Their shooting was never great and now they look seem fatigued by the end of the first quarter. D suffers, as well.

I thought I was nitpicking some of the wins where the Horns built big leads in the first half and then played pretty lethargic in the second half. That seemed to be their primary MO as the season progressed, aside from the KU game.

They look tired on defense and offense, they have Brown and Hamilton that score consistently and when they dont Johnson picks them up, looks like their legs are gone and this has affected their offense and defense. Lack of depth hurts this team big time. I love Thompson but by next year he must improve his free throw shooting. They have hit a brick way physically, not sure what they can do to get it back?

Nebraska has a great defense and CU has a pretty good offense. I think in the 2nd half the altitude got to Texas in the CU game plus fatigue. Dead legs explain why the defense has gone downhill and why the shooting isn't there, their effort is still there.

I'm willing to concede on the altitude effect lasting a couple games. I've experienced that myself, but I think this funk is partly about us abandoning the movement that our offense showed the first 25 games. That happened at Nebraska before the "dead legs" could happen. Whatever it is, I'm disappointed that this season is unravelling and I hope that someway the guys can pull it back to gether for the post season. Another opportunity at a conference championship has been pissed away. That seems to be the norm for our two flagship programs.

Look at the minutes per player. Everyone for KSU played to double digits.
Lucas 6
Wangmene 4
Hill 9
and Wangmene missed the previous two games

I don't think this team beats BU. Not now. Teams are figuring out that our Offense is TT and Ham. If ham's jumper isn't falling then we are pretty well f'd.

Barnes has a real problem creating/teaching offense with screens, movement, spreading the court, etc. He has yet to figure out how to use J'co Brown, except to put him in to throw up threes when we are down.

This team has a lot of offensive talent, without an effective scheme to take full advantage of it.

And a big problem may be that we don't have a really good point guard like ksu's Pullen. That guy plays great defense, hits his freethrows at 80%, hits the jumper, drives and dishes.

If we trade any of our gurards for Pullen last night, we win that game, imho.

I think the problem yesterday was different than previous games. The offense kept the ball moving most of the game. They were getting good shots. They were missing them. For Brown and Hamilton, when they got inside layups, it looked like they jumped an inch off the ground at best. The 3 pters were good shots - they were just missing them.

That's different than CU where the offense got lazy and there was no ball movement.

Being tired could be a part of if. If that's the case, they need to stop with the full court defense which really isn't forcing turnovers. On the good side, they have 5 days off, and then Baylor, and then another 6 days off - so if they need rest, they'll get their chance. If that's the case, a 1st round B12 Tourney exit would be a good thing too, given that they are locked into a 2 seed, or maybe 3 if they lose that game - which is no big deal. The key was getting a #1 seed in SA. Without that, I don't think a 2 vs 3 matters much this year.

This team isn't tired, just exposed.
Teams have figured us out, especially after the NU game.
Teams are setting rotating screens up high and then they penetrate when we help out.
This allows them to get high % close range shots or kick it out for 3s.

Not to mention we are giving up way too many second/third shots because leave no one in good position to block out.
I think we 'over help' at times. It can be done but everyone has to rotate. Not just one or two.
KState was also wise to go hard at our big - since his free throw shooting is less than desirable.

And I hope Hamilton doesn't have any illusions of playing in the NBA next year. I love him but unless he is coming off a screen, he can't get open, get a shot off, or make a good pass. As of late, anyway.

this "tired" line is tired. Our recent trend has very little to do with that.

You forgot to use an emoticon.

Good teams and coaches make adjustments. We didn't all of the sudden just get sorry.
Teams have made adjustments against us, but if you think we are just dog gone pooped, hey - I aint mad at ya.
