Things fools pay for

Disagree on the car PIP insurance. It's dirt cheap, covers lost wages & isn't reimbursable. Your health insurance will only take care of the medical costs & then wants to be reimbursed (since it was auto-related).

I was pretty glad I had the extended warranty this past summer when the replacement part for my Sony LCD was tagged at $1200. $300 over the course of three years to protect a $2500 item doesn't seem all that outrageous.

But I'll add one to the list: $20 jeans.

And Ameros.

and big dooley trucks with leather interior that never see anything but street pavement.

Leased cars. ( I know.... every once in a blue moon, it makes sense... but regular Joe loses out 99% of the time on lease deals) There is a reason why the dealerships push them on you more than anything else.

I think with a wife it is an investment. do you get one of the boobs back in a divorce? Can you pre-nup this? Pre-nip?

I've always thought that for the average guy, "Monster Cables" were pretty unnecessary. I get pretty thick gauge speaker wire or composite cables etc and am pretty sure <0.25 % of people could ever tell the difference in a non-super highend home system.

Monster Cable is definitely a scam, though true high-end audio and video cables do make a difference for some. Monster Cable is only high-end in price.

Also, I sometimes pay the one-time 10% replacement insurance on higher-cost electronics purchases. If you also told me I could insure my car for no-questions-asked replacement for 5- or more years for a one-time payment of 10% of the purchase value, I might pay it depending on my driving record and the type of car.

I understand why people do it, sometimes these purchases are very significant to people's budgets, it just kills me that the insurance is mispriced to an egregious amount and I hate being taken advantage of.

I imagine homeowner's insurance covers these things as well and th deductible for many people would be less than the price of the extended warranty.
