Visit Gonzales, Texas. Where it all began!!!

Gonzales is most famous as the "Lexington of Texas" because it was the site of the first skirmish of the Texas Revolution. In 1831, the Mexican government gave the settlers a small cannon for protection against Indian attacks. At the outbreak of hostilities, a contingent of Mexican soldiers was sent from San Antonio to retrieve the cannon. On 2 October 1835, they were met by Texans who had fashioned a flag with the words "Come and take it". The Texans successfully resisted the federal troops in what became known as the Battle of Gonzales.

Gonzales later contributed thirty-two men to the ill-fated defense of the Alamo.

stuff your face on BBQ (ribs, sausage rings, pork chops, brisket) on a table covered w/ brown paper, no sauce, sides of "yellow cheese", onions, pickles, maybe some pinto beans. And a f*ckload of shiner.

God bless you Lockhart, I miss your smell already.

And then go south and fish the King Ranch shoreline for reds on a setting sun.

Three things:

1. The Alamo. I get misty every time I go there.
2. The State Capitol. I feel proud every time I go there.
3. Texas-OU. I am ecstatic every time I go there AND WE WIN!

alden, I'm pretty sure Danno is talking about Royer's...the pies are some of the best anywhere. As for the chicken fried steak, I can't say. I've usually had one of the daily specials...some of the best steak I've ever had, killer stuffed flounder. The veggies are always exceptional. It is one of my favorite little, out of the way places.
