The UFL announces potential host cities

Ummm ... not to rain on your parade, but that press release was from 9 months ago. I thought I read something about the UFL idea going down the crapper, but I might be wrong.

In any event, it's a pipe dream. Exhibit 1: the USFL. it actually did OK in the beginning when it had a spring season and didn't even think about trying to compete against the NFL in the fall. The switch to a fall season was the biggest factor in its downfall, IMHO.

Exhbiit 2: five of the cities listed have major college football programs with which the UFL would have to compete. Do people really think that Austin would rally behind a second-rate pro team when it's got the 'Horns to support?

All indications point to the UFL having delayed any action to 2009. Teams were supposed to be announced in March and that time has come and gone.

I've been trying to keep up with the AAFL movements, but there just haven't been any. It is a shame too. Last week the football world could have been watching Texas play Tennessee for a the last playoff spot, instead we got to read about Marcus Vick's DUI case and who holding out of which mini camp for what petty reason.

I miss football.

I've always wanted to inherit a couple billion dollars from a rogue uncle and buy Tennessee Titans, move them to a publicly funded mega stadium in San Marcos and rename the the CenTex Willie Nelsons.

A man can dream can't he?
