The Silence of American Hawks About Kiev's Atrocities

Recommend you take 5 minutes and read the entire article. As serious as the ISIS situation in the Middle East is, the unreported developments in Ukraine are potentially more serious.

Its been said that the people of Germany were individually sane during the 1930's, but collectively insane as a society. I've got to believe a similar situation is beginning to take hold in the United States as the government becomes more and more nontransparent and corrupt, while the media grows increasingly toothless. Most citizens are apathetic to what are government has become, and those who aren't, no longer possess the critical thinking skills to question what is going on.

Mus, I knew already almost every detail and nuance of that report. Was a consolidated way of putting it all together in one read.

I forget who said it, but "In a democracy, the people get the government they deserve" has a certain ring of truth to it.

Obviously a constitution and/or bill of rights in a republic restrains the majority from imposing unfettered will upon the minority, but the "deserve" part could apply to either representational system where citizens vote to elect politicians to form a government.

Rebuilding America's Defenses: Strategy, Forces and Resources For a New Century -- A Report of The Project for the New American Century, September 2000 (PDF, 90 pages)

Donald Kagan, one of the co-chairs, is father of Robert Kagan (participate of the project), who is husband of Victoria Nuland. So behind her motives would to preserve everthing in the philosophy of her husband and father-in-law. I would certainly think.

A principle of the findings of the 'think tank' is that you cannot go to sleep at the wheel and preserve sole super power status (Pax Americana as stated). And keeping Russia at bay is part of that. I understand the idea for global dominance is that you have to do it to keep someone from dominating you. Open-ended argument for me.

This table is on page 2 of the main text. It lays out the concepts of the neocons in a fairly clear way. Russia would have to sit down and stay in their place. And be treated that way. To preserve the Pax Americana.

I consider the past two decades of Nato expansion, the plan for a missile shield in Eastern Europe, and the long effort to pull Ukraine under the umbrella, possibly hoisting a Nato flag in Crimea, as all part of the total plan. And the problem now is that it boiled over and has not gone so well. Otherwise, the US surely would have more humanitarian eyes on the situation in the Donbas region and take the Poroshenko regime to task over what their military operations are doing. (Yet, keep in mind, we have taken that posture for decades all around the world -- go along with madness if it seems in our best interest).

Taken in light of these kinds of goals outlined in 2000, well then everything today makes sense. You do what you must in order to preserve and expand the Empire.

The Kagan topic was a great read,, thx for posting Hu! I didn't think I could dislike Nuland more, but I was wrong. A female combination of wolfie & feith. And to those lamenting the 'current' collapse of our representative democracy -- if it's any solace, we lost it about 6 decades ago. And please don't blame the pols for that, we elected them!

It is interesting that the Neocon agenda, as condensed by Hu above and more completely in the referenced paper, is basically unchallenged by neither Obama nor leaders within the Democratic party. In fact, under Obama, the policy continues.

The nuances within the policy have changed course a few times over the past dozen or so years, but thats about it.

The so-called axis of evil named by Bush was Iraq, Iran, and North Korea. Iraq of course was destabilized and is now somewhat of an Iranian satellite state.

It would seem the new "axis of evil" will be Russia and China, neither of whom have threatened or attacked anyone militarily. Syria and Iran have relationships with Russia, and therefore must be destabilized and destroyed if possible. The instrument of choice used to destabilize Syria and harass Islam is naturally Wahabbi Islam - the brand responsible for Al Qaeda and 911 - supported mainly by dollars and recruits flowing out of Saudi Arabia, Kawait, Yemen, and Qatar. And the US clandestinely facilitates the training of these radical jihadis with a wink and a nod (even as we domestically sacrifice freedoms because this ideology threatens our safety). This is what happened to Libya, now a destroyed, destabilized country that provides a safe haven for radical Islam. Is that insanity or what?

Likewise, the Eastern European, ex-Soviet countries such as Georgia and Ukraine have long been targeted by the US as zones that can be influenced to weaken Russia. If that means bringing in a criminal, right-wing regime that advocates ethnic cleansing and risking regional war, apparently that is what the US will work to accomplish. Surely this will turn out well too.

Down the road, similar strains are bound to show up in the South Pacific with China. It will be a miracle if the world escapes a nuclear calamity somewhere down the line as the US empire is at stake and those in charge are unwilling to give up control.

From another newsletter writer... Jim Powell's 'Global Changes & Opportunities Report.' June-July 2014... writes that more than just a few places are voting to redraw boundaries. Some on religious or ethnic issues that tear some people apart, or bring others together.

Some I was not aware of...

Roger, land wars aren't an agenda, but rather a strategy to achieve an agenda.

While Obama hasn't committed a mass number of troops to a ground war as McCain would probably prefer, his choices for Secretary of State, first Clinton and later Kerry, practice anything other than diplomacy. Clinton was Gungho for bombing Libya into submission and Kerry wanted to bomb Syria back to the Stone Age.

The foreign goals are the same under Obama; to intimidate and destabilize the region. As with Bush, if implementing that goal requires lies and propaganda to shape public opinion, that's what we get. Politically, Obama realizes that committing thousands more US troops isn't going to go over well with the American Public, nor with independents, and especially with his Democrat base.

I don't believe Bush nor Obama played a major role in shaping our insane policies, but rather take on the job of spokesperson. Most likely when there are conflicting views with the powers that be (whomever they are within the military complex and advisory positions) the President will make the decision on which way he wants to go and that is very important. But it doesn't change the big agenda, just the mode of implementation.

Roger, the point of my post has to do with the roots of neoconservatism. You dismiss it, but instead of explaining why you think I'm wrong you raise a bunch of the partisan talking points that involve events and leaders that are 20 to 50 years too late to be relevant. Why should I go down your wild goose chase?

Roger: I disagree with Mr. Deez often, but I'd join what I expect would be a solid majority of posters here would who would rate him the smartest contributor to West Mall. It's a political discussion board and you should feel free to take issues with his ideas and observations. I'd warn that to question his intelligence or integrity diminishes your own standing.

Crockett, every chance I get, I've expressed that - including in my previous response to prodigal!! That this is such a deep subject, that someone like a Deez is only capable of grasping! I guess that sentiment did not come across, , which is why I'm responding.

By the same token, I believe Deez is wrong on this, and I'm willing to share as well as learn, topics related to 'neocon' ism. It doesn't begin and end there, but encompasses so much more that one shouldn't be surprised if the page count goes nuts.
