As Hanford, WA shows there is still a problem with the waste. It needs to be part of the energy solution to combat global warming but is certainly not a panacea. Until we develop new and better methods to handle the waste we're simply trading our more acute enviornmental problem for one further out.

I trust ICAN about as much as I trust Putin, which is to say not at all. They want to abolish nuclear.

You mean kind of like the waste generated from all the worn out unrecyclable wind and solar equipment that is going into massive graveyards? Or the massive ecological destruction from lithium strip mining for "green car" batteries?

I never understand how y'all decide what environmental destruction is ok and what is not.

It also highlights how careful the US will have to be going forward unless they want to cause financial ruin for US citizens.

I agree. China really can't afford to cut trade with the US. They can because the CCP is willing to let their people suffer. But they have also promised employment in exchange for consent to rule. The CCP knows if unemployment goes way up so does opposition. Their economy is based on export to the US and EU.

But I think the same can be done with Russia and Iran, over time. That isn't possible in today's climate.
