The Prayer of Jabez

Am I confused with another book, but isn't the focus of "The Prayer of Jabez" that if God doesn't answer your prayer, you didn't pray hard enough and therefore, weren't deserving of His answer? That's NOT right.

No, the focus is simply "ask and it will be given to you". God wants us to seek Him out. He won't punish us for not praying hard or for not praying at all. I think of it as a bonus. He also says not to ramble on in your prayers because He already knows what you need before you ask. The prayer is a selfish one, but it simply asks for what He promises.

Oh, and that You shall bless me Indeed!
Oh, and that You shall expand my territories
Oh, and that You shall hold my hand
Oh, and that You shall keep me from evil.

Keeping my prayers short and to the point is one of the things I have trouble with, I tend to ramble...someone is Bible study this past Sunday morning brought up how we need to be specific and brief when praying to God. Maybe one day, I'll get the prayer thing worked out right.

I've heard this prayer is a good one. I finally read that book the other night and it broke down each part of this four part prayer. Most of it comes from the book of Matthew and connects it to the Old Testament. There are many different ways to rephrase the prayer to your own words. I'm going to pray like this from now on(this and the Lord's prayer). Just wondered if people on here say this prayer.

One of the post stated that "the prayer of Jabez" is a selfish prayer.
If a person tries to get (Jehovah) God to bless him strictly on the fact that he/she read a book and tries to reduce God's Word to a formula, then yes that is very selfish.
If you are commenting on the fact that a person, who is in right standing with God, through Jesus Christ, then he/she is a son, (Gal 4:6) if he/she is a son of the King then they would be an heir. And since the Father owns cattle on a thousand hills, (Psalm 50:10-12) and His Word says "the world is His and all it contains."
Then to comment on the post the the prayer of Jabez is selfish , I say no, if I 'm an heir to the King then I can come boldly to the throne of Grace and and ask for whatever I want And it is God's responsibility to grant my prtition according to His purpose for my life.

God Bless
