The Masters

I am thankful for the DVR. I was able to fast forward everytime Tiger came on the screen. I couldn't tell who was the sex addict, Tiger or the networks. If he never wins again, that will be soon enough for me. I did not like his on course behavior before the sex scandal, and I think Verne Lundquist said it best on Saturday that "some things obviously haven't changed" after his outburst.

I found myself cringing at the post round interviewer's questions of Tiger, but I also don't think his response did anything to endear him to the public.

Tigers just a dick who plays great golf.

He just reinforced that with his complete gracelessness in the post tourney interview. He could learn something from Lee Westwood about handling disappointment.

HIs on-course demeanor is juvenile and a terrible example to kids when you are trying to teach them how to handle the inevitable disappointments of golf.

That interview was right up there with the Michael Jordan Hall of Fame "I am the Biggest ******* Ever" speech.

Tiger is just a dick to other professional golfers, the media, the fans, and, oh yeah ... his wife. I don't give a **** if he is the greatest golfer on the planet. Because he is such a dick, I hope he never wins another tournament.

and by the way, WAY TO GO PHIL. You deserve all your just rewards.

As long as Augusta continues to disallow female members, their course and their tournament deserve no reverence from anyone.

Can't argue with that

Jordan may share the opinion with many that he is the best player of all time and he would be correct, but he is far from egocentric. He has in fact done a lot of good, donating millions to a number of deserving charities.

So has Tiger and in a big way as well.

Jordan is not only egocentric, he is an ******* by many accounts. He is driven and at another level in his competitiveness. There is something hard wired in guys like this which we cannot understand. It is part of what makes them great as athletes, businessmen or whatever it is they do. Make no mistake about it, your thoughts on Jordan seem to be far from the truth.

The guy, like Tiger Woods, has friends so they are not complete douchebags. But they have a certain air about them. Take Lance Armstrong as another example. The guy is pretty much a prick. A prick that does tons and tons of stuff for his foundation and gives hope, money and strength to people afflicted by cancer. That is a beautiful thing he does not have to do. Maybe he does it for his ego and maybe he doesn't. I don't care as long as people benefit.

All 3 of these guys are freaking amazing at what they do or did. They have a gear we don't have and part of that gear is they come off as dicks or aspects of that part of them shine through at time.

Jordan was unapproachable and pissy when he lost. Do not dare bother him. If you were his college roomate and on the golf team, you may not get sleep that night if you beat him at War or even Tiddly-Winks. He would not rest until he won. This is from his words too. Forget golf. If you beat him like you always do and should he keeps going at you. Do not let him think you let him have a hole to shut him up. Again, this is all per Mike's college roomate when asked about how competitive he was.

I love me some Michael Jordan (not and was not a Bulls fan), Tiger Woods and Lance Armstrong as athletes and people who help people in many ways. That is as far as I take it.

I don't know what Woods has done in the way of philanthropy, but the things Jordan has done, particularly for underprivileged, at risk youth is significant. For that reason I can forgive him for any attitude due his extremely competitive nature. But then I am a forgiving person at heart.

Here is a list compiled by givingback.org from 2007. Tiger was 5th on the list.
The Link

He gave 9.5 million.

This excerpt on April 7th, 2010 is from Takepart.com and is about golfers who give after the 18th hole is finished. Guess who is atop the list?

TIGER WOODS

After the fastest and furthest fall from grace in sporting history, the answer to the following question—“What is Tiger Woods’ greatest off-the-course conquest?”—seems like Amateur Hour on Lowest Common Denominator Humor Night, right? True, by his own admission, Woods has not been committed to his wife over the past few years. But his commitment to charity, specifically the Tiger Woods Foundation, has been ironclad. Millions of dollars have been donated and thousands of children, teenagers, and families have been positively affected. In fact, it’s the sheer size and scope of Woods’ philanthropy that’s most impressive. As reported by ESPN, in 2008 the foundation awarded $2.9 million in grants and individual college scholarships. Then there’s the Tiger Woods Learning Center, a 35,000-square-foot educational facility in Anaheim, California, which offers classes ranging from aerospace rocketry to forensic science, and has reached more than 20,000 youths and families since its inception. According to Giving Back, in 2006, Woods contributed $9.5 million of his own money to his foundations.

You may notice that Micheal Jordan's name is not even mentioned. It turns out that MJ is not even in the same realm as Tiger is in giving. Hmmm.

Woods' charitable giving trumps that of the Dan Marino Foundation (which disburses around $1.7 million annually), Derek Jeter's Turn 2 Foundation (around $1 million), the Mia Hamm Foundation (around $200,000), the Roger Clemens Foundation (more than $150,000) and Kristi Yamaguchi's Always Dream Foundation (around $57,000), to name just a few of the many pro-athlete-funded philanthropies.

In fact, few other athletes are in Woods' league when it comes to generosity, the most notable being cyclist Lance Armstrong, whose Lance Armstrong Foundation donates more than $21 million annually to cancer research. Other athletes in big-league philanthropy are tennis great Andre Agassi, whose Andre Agassi Charitable Foundation gives over $4 million to assistance for at-risk boys and girls every year, and the late baseball player Cal Ripken, Sr., whose Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation spends around $2 million yearly to offer baseball and softball camps to disadvantaged youth.

Twitter: head of Tiger Woods Foundation says situation has not hurt foundation

I thought his massive philanthropy was widely known. I was wrong.

Oh, and about Michael...in case you forgot, it goes beyond attitude.

----------------------------------

Michael Jordan has been known to cheat on his wife in the past, so it's probably safe to say that his infidelity led to the split. After 17 yrs of marriage and 3 kids, the couple will take on new lifes apart from each other.

and

regarding his divorce which was the richest in history

This is one of those instances where the two parties probably got equitable dividends from the relationship. Juanita and Michael were together forever, including his rise to fame in the NBA w/ the Chicago Bulls and later the Washington Wizards (still trying to erase this from memory). Her influence and poise throughout his career helped him maintain his high level of stature in the league & in the public eye. There were words of Michael cheating & sleeping around, as well as numerous gambling rumors during his career. All along the way, Juanita and the kids helped MJ keep a solid profile.

Don't forget the gambling problems and a host of other issues. MJ was not perfect, Tiger was not perfect. Lance Armstrong is not perfect. But dicks they may be, they help a **** ton of people. Just admit you don't like Tiger but don't give reasons why and then proclaim to love MJ when he did the same stuff and does not even give back as much.

100, I think you are confusing checks these guys actually write with what their foundations do.

Lance didnt give away 21 million. The foundation that bears his name and gets money from people like me gave away 21 million. Lance is the face of it but he doesnt fund that much of it, which is all fine.

Actually the athlete I was most impressed with on that list is Carmelo Anthony writing a check for 4 million. As a percentage of income that is a HUGE amount relative to the other jocks on there.

I live in Chicago and the word on Jordan is he is all about doing stuff on OPM [Other Peoples Money]. More power to him but the guy is legendary for never paying his golf bets.

I guess that second or third link where it listed others Foundations as well muddled my point, sorry for that. The point is that not only does Tiger exceed all others in his Foundation but also in his personal givings out of his own pocket.

Reference the above and Jordan in Chicago, I have heard things like that but there were no sources for me to link to. He is known for giving not much of his own money and likes working with that of others. I am still a big MJ fan, however.
