Who is your odds on favorite or dark horse pick?

I've got a hunch about Dustin Johnson. I think he could finish very well and surprise a lot of folks.

The greatest week in sports...end of March Madness and the start of golfs first major, The Masters.

Some might add the start of MLB to the mix.

I like Steve Stricker this week

overmaars,

My husband is a man and he feels the same way I do. Not everyone worships at the altar of almighty golf.

One helluva website, I'll say that. Man! They sure know how to make use of my 24 inch iMac. Great concept.

Masters... not your typical website

Good example of a website reflecting the content. Augusta is not NY Times, ESPN or Wall Street Journal.

followup...
Thur morning 11 am central... just checked out the Live Video on the Master's website... STUNNING!! wide-screen format.

The default video image is 11.5 inches diagonal!! I have not seen anything online produce a default video of that quality other than... sites I can't name here, ones that produce HD quality videos... anyway. 11.5 inches diagonal, 5.5 inches high. Very close to an HD onscreen. My computer monitor is not full HD far as I know. It's set on 1920 x 1200... that should be HD, but the pixel resolution is not up to par with my Panasonic Plasma running Bluray. And I've had my Plasma calibrated after 500 hours so gives a great picture. This feed by the Master's website is as good as it gets online. Right up there.

But this should be the immediate future of NFL and college games in live feeds. I don't have the 3D setup to try that out, but should cool to see.

Can you imagine being able to watch any college football game at this level? !!!

Couples today looks like he should be out at Lions or something, what is up with the soles of his shoes??

I'm just thankful Tiger is back and playing...otherwise the Masters would be a non-event...he is the only reason most people watch golf anymore. And of course even better that he's near the top of the leaderboard, let's hope that doesn't change on Friday; when he isn't in contention on the weekend the ratings plummet.

I watched Tiger's last 6 or 7 holes yesterday. He was definitely handling himself differently. He still had that fire and was showing a ton of emotion. However hedidn't go too negative very often. Granted he was playing well. I even saw him hand an iron to Steve.

When my wife came home she saw Tiger on and kept saying "Liar", "cheat", etc. Not that a ton of women watched golf anyways but I think he has a long way to go with regard to women fans. All she wanted to know was if his wife was there watching him.

As for Tiger, I'm embarrassed for the game of golf. He has set a horrible example of conduct

only because this became public. the professional golf tour is known for a loose and party like atmosphere during these week long tournaments. the golfers are pissed tiger got caught.

Two things are necessary to avoid considering The Masters "overrated."
[pre] 1. Functioning sense known as "vision."
2. Absence of malice toward Mother Nature.[/pre]

No matter what anyone might think of golf, Augusta National this time of year is one of the most beautiful sights your eyes will ever behold.

And apart from the above, if you like sports at all, even if you despise golf, The Masters is incredible.

My connections to golf:

1) Miniature golf
2) Occasionally going to the driving range while in middle school on Yongsan in Seoul, Korea.
3) Playing nine holes once on Hancock when I was 13 (and even I have a shot to brag about).
4) Sometimes watching golf on TV with my mom when I was in junior high and high school. We would cheer for whoever had the most interesting name or the most interesting clothes (short of being Payne Stewart, that is) or for Butch Baird, whom she occasionally baby sat many years ago.

That's it.

Watching the Masters is cool. Of course, having them not show the the first few holes of several contenders because they have an hour promo show about the history of the tourney and then starting the real program with 5 minutes of still crap before showing any player actually swing a club was pretty irritating.

I think far fewer care, I don't. Many if not most are maybe jealous. I have never thought of Tiger marketing himself as a family man. The press or media may have done that. If I think back of Tigers image I think of a fierce competitor who is the best golfer to ever walk the planet. A guy who works out harder than anybody else. He practices more than anybody else and is the first to arrive and last to leave the practice area for a tourney. He expects and demands the best of himself. That is the image of Tiger Woods.

What he does with his family or libido is his choice and he has to deal with it in however he can. But that is Tiger Woods the person not the golfer.

Great win for Phil. Some spectacular shots and no bogeys. Lee Westwood will break through sometime soon - he is a very solid golfer.

Phil's gotta get 'em in when he can, while Tiger is down. He played great which is not all that common for him. Actually, he is a great golfer but sadly he is no Tiger Woods. He has the terrible luck of being a part of the Tiger Woods era. This win means so much to him and his family I am glad he was able to eek it out before Tiger gets his full stride back.

The Masters is simply one of the best sporting events, period. I recognize almost every hole on TV before they even say what it is. My favorite memories are rooting for Ben Crenshaw back in the day.

It always seems this tournament brings out the best in the best players. There are very few if any annual sporting events that have such an illustrious history as The Masters. The one anomaly that comes to mind is Greg Norman never having won it, but even that simply added to the mystique since he choked so many times at Augusta.

And there surely is not a more beautiful stage in all of sports. Someday I've got to make it out to one in person.

There was a segment on ESPN radio earlier today that talked about how the Master's is purposely made for the excitement. They make some greens filter the ball to the hole and even move pins up if the wind is strong. They are different in their philosophy than the U.S. Open which sets out to make the course much harder and more of a challenge.

The Master's is pro drama and the U.S. Open is pro skill/luck. It was an interesting bit of info to hear.
