The Masters

With the greatest golf event ever coming up, I was curious as to who everyone had winning it.

Sure... Tiger has to be the favorite because of his amazing start to the year but I have a feeling someone else could take it late on Sunday. I don't have much confidence in Phil making a push but he already won at Riviera and always seems to surprise me like at TPC last year. My dark horse... the man, Geoff Ogilvy, for his second major title.

It's by far and away my favorite sporting event of the year (bar texas football) and should be great as always.

I'm really looking forward to it as well. Outside of football season, this is the best time of the year in my opinion. NCAA/Opening Day/Masters...good stuff.

Luke Donald has played well recently, as has Stuart Appleby. Each of them may be ready to make the leap and win their first major. Sergio still has the game for Augusta, but odds are he'll choke or just pout the whole time.

It's Tiger's to lose

Well, considering you don't win the Masters unless you are a terrific putter, you can effectively eliminate both Stuart Appelby and Sergio Garcia. Especially Sergio.

Zach Johnson won last year's event and he is one hell of a putter.

I'd say the favorites are Tiger (for obvious reasons), Phil (unbelievable short game), Vijay (if his streaky putter is streaking), Steve Stricker (playing awesome for a solid year now) and K.J. Choi (putting out of his mind).

The #11 ranked player in the world (Ogilvy) cannot qualify as a "darkhorse".

Don't you guys wish someone had a great Masters fantasy golf deal to participate in?

Probably my favorite, yet busiest, week of the year. The addition of HD to the Masters a few years ago has made it all the better.

golf is a streaky sport. other than tiger, it's hard to stay on your game every week. that's why you have players who play well for a stretch and then fade away.

with that said, the above players mentioned are streaky at the right time. tiger did not put well in the last tournament. i hope that is not a bad streak for him. if his putter fails him again, he will not win.

He was inconsistent. He putted very good 1st 2 rounds and last 7 holes of final round but in between that he missed many short putts which is not like Tiger. Something about the speed of the course during that time was throwing him off.

Tiger wins easily.

PSA - ESPN will air the par 3 tournament on wednesday. I beleive this is the first time this has ever been aired.

I'd love nothing more than to see Ernie Els put it all together this week & don the green jacket Sunday afternoon. He can probably get by w/ his swing having a few hitches but his putter has been killing him the past couple of years. Definitely not a recipe for success @ Augusta. But still, before he blew out his knee he was pretty much a solid lock to finish in the top 5 in every major there for almost 2 years.

I would not be surprised to see Stricker win. Certainly Woods will be the odds-on favorite, but he cannot control the opponents - and if someone can get on a streak for four days, he can beat Woods.

I'll watch if it's competitive on Sunday afternoon. I really would like to see the winner determined on the 72nd hole - the suspense is what makes it worth watching.

this would be teh ideal time to get a vasectomy, to steal from another thread. 4 long, slow-paced recovery days of watching the Masters.

I like Geoff Ogilvy as well. He won 3 weeks ago at Doral, and has played well the last 2 weeks. Steady eddie is the way to win Augusta.

Tiger's putter needs to heat up for him to win this week.

One of my Top 3 sporting events of the year. I love the Masters. Especially when Tiger is in contention on Sunday!!

Just a magical tournament.

"A tradition like no other....The Masters".

I'm going to lay a hundo down on Els' 25/1 to win it. I think this is Ernie's year; he's switched to Butch Harmon as his swing coach and apparently has improved his posture, backswing, and tempo.

KJ for a top 3 along with Ogilvy respectively.

Let's be honest. There are only about 5 guys who can win this tournament.

Mickelson and Tiger are a notch above the rest, and one of them will win it.

I like Phil. He's had a couple of down weeks and he can turn things around quickly. He'll have the putting straightened out by tomorrow.

What score do you all like to win it? I think something between E and 4 under will win.

Tiger-but it is hard to ever bet against him.

Chris DiMarco should win it one year because he has been really close for a few years and seems to play well at Augusta. jmo.

I really am stoked that I get to watch The Masters in HD this year. WOOOHOOOO. I may be worthless this weekend.

Interesting comment I heard from last week's tournament (from Johnny Miller I think). Augusta is a very undulating course, so there's a ton of side hill, downhill, uphill lies. Thus, the commentator pointed out how short golfers tend to do well in the Masters, and taller golfers usually struggle.

Just off the top of my head: Crenshaw, Zach Johnson, Langer, Woosnam...all relatively short.

Anyone else laugh when Sergio plunked one in the water during the par 3 competition? I know many do it but ever since his moaning after the Open Championship I lost alot of respect for the guy.

Now what do I do on Sunday? The Raptors play on tv during the final round, but I don't think I can turn down the beauty of Augusta.

Out of curiosity, has anyone on here been lucky enough to make it out? Its a goal of mine to step foot on that property.

I have never played golf; however, I love watching the Masters.

Can someone confirm this? I had a friend attend the Masters a couple of years ago and he told me that everything is so matriculate that they actually serve beers in green cups so that if one shows up on the ground that it is camoflauged and will not show up on T.V. I think that's cool if true.

green cups for beer, green wrappers for the sammiches (eat an egg sandwich for me lwp), green everything. Its the tits, greatest sporting event I've ever been to, minus a little football game we won a couple of years back.

You can't appreciate how much the course moves up and down until you see it in person.....ex. #2, long, sweeping par 5 probably decreases in elevation 100 feet from the tee box to the green.

I love going there more than anything. I'm rooting for Big Ernie Mckracken this week.
