We will be in good shape on the QB front. Yes, OU and Arkansas have good QB's...for now. But both those QB's will only be there for DGB's freshman season. What about after that?

I like our chances with Ash, Brewer, and possibly Swoopes.

I hope you guys are right about the QB, but unfortunately there is nothing in Ash's body of work that would suggest he can consistently and accurately get the ball down the field. Even in the Holiday Bowl he continued to throw the ball into the ground or over wide open receivers down the field. Brewer at this point is an unknown who could end up either as the next Texas good QB or as GG II; Swoops name isn't on an LOI so he is not a factor.

The bigger issue is to a highly recruited 18 year old, what happens next is all they care about. piggy might have an issue, but little bobby can show a solid record of QB development progression.

Mack's sell has to be Texas as a team will be an elite team over the next 3 years which means 2 if not 3 victories over ou. If Mack can put ou to rest, the only issue will be piggy and Mizzou which Mack should be able to match up very well.

ViperHorn,

I agree with a lot of what you had to say. But I do hope that being a true Freshman that didn't get a lot of action in the off-season will be different for him his sophmore year. Not to mention the whole offense was also new with Harsin as the OC. Also I think the biggest problem for QB's when it comes to accuracy is how much time they have to throw. Nothing is worse than a QB having to throw before he is ready. Hopefully the OL will be much improved after a year with the OL coach and I feel really good about the JUCO player we picked up. One other thing is I'm hoping Ash really got a chance to get use to the speed of the game. It was glaring that he was not ready for that speed when he played OU. What looked open to him was 6 points the other way for OU.

But you're right that the young guys are only thinking about next year and don't see past that. Hopefully Mack will have a great presentation and will bring these points up and it soaks in to DGB and he has the maturity to see it. We can only hope anyway.

What happened with Ash last season was to be totally expected. He was a true freshman, got very few practice snaps before the season, and because of Gilbert issues got thrown into the fire long before he was ready. His talent actually showed in the fact that he did improve as he went along, especially in the bowl game, where he made zero egregious mistakes. He also doesn't seem to have let his problems during the season get into his head, like his predecessor did,

Ash may not be the second coming of Peyton Manning, but he has the talent to be a pretty good college quarterback. As for his ability to throw accurately downfield, go back and take a look at his high school play. Yep, I know high school performance doesn't always indicate college ability, but Ash was accurate and able to make all of the throws at Belton. I think a productive offseason and seven on seven as the man going into next season will make a huge difference.

I'm a lot more concerned with who backs him up in case of injury. There's Case, and then there's....???

I'm sayin' I think it's too early in his career to be bashin' Ash. If he performs next season like he did in the bowl game, we're gonna be fine with all the other moving parts we have on offense.

"What top undecided recruit has Mack ever signed during the last two weeks of a recruiting season?"

Chris Sims for one. The # 1 recruit in the nation that year. And it was a last week deal.

(edited to correct Chris's name)

FYI

Luck was a Rivals 4 Star out of Houston Stratford in 2008 Class. #68 on Rivals 100. They only list interest in 6 schools each of which offered: Stanford, Northwestern, Oklahoma St, Purdue, Rice & Virginia. Other than OkSt, the others are highly touted academic schools. I don't know what Luck studied. Ok St may be excellent in that particular field. I am not degrading Ok St, just relaying info.

No other Texas school than Rice is listed.

Sorry to drag this out of the ditch and back on topic, but Arkysaw just cancelled Petrino's in-home visit tomorrow night. They're still sending a pair of assistant coaches, but Petrino is sitting it out due to a potential recruiting violation (inadvertent or not) that happened while both parties were in San Antonio earlier this month.

Interesting. Speculation is that Missouri turned them in. Apparently they didn't get the SEC memo on not ratting on your friends.

I believe our odds may have just improved. Knock on wood.

Isn't Mack's personal visit today (Thursday)? At lunch? Then Major, Harsin, and Wyatt at the house tonight without Mack?

I love the idea of Major (a life long, longhorn) giving the closing arguements... if majors love cant win him over, then he doesnt need to be here
