They should just basically absorb the best 8 from the AAC and form a pretty decent basketball conference. They might even be able to save face with the football people and sort of "declare" that they're still Power-5 even though it won't be.

But this only works if KU doesn't go to B1G, Tech doesn't go to Pac, etc.

Texas and OU are all they've got. Now that we're gone they're screwed. But I really don't care.

According to The Athletic, which pulled its TV ratings data from Sports Media Watch, the 22 Oklahoma regular-season games in 2018-19 averaged 3.76 million viewers on ABC, Fox, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU or FS1; the 18 Texas games on those channels averaged 3.2 million. The other 59 games that included the remaining eight Big 12 teams -- and not OU or UT--averaged about 886,000 viewers.

I can see no circumstance under which Baylor could or should accept BYU as a member. If they do, they will really piss off the powers that be in the church, meaning I may get my wish of all new "management and board".

There is nothing the Big 12 can do to repair or enhance their standing. Whether it dissolves, or they had UH, SMU, Central Florida, etc, it's a second or third tier conference now. God bless them, but TCU, Tech, Baylor--no matter what their record is or how many times they beat Texas or OU--they just don't move the needle. The best recruits aren't interested. ***** all you want about OU and UT being disloyal, but those schools were dragging us down.

As for all the hate, I don't remember anyone lambasting TCU for leaving the Mountain West (or wherever) when they moved to the Big 12 to enhance their situation.

I actually feel some sympathy for TCU and Tech. But not Baylor. BU can wind up in the Sunbelt Conference or Conference USA for all I care.

My wife and FIL are Frog grads, and my UT grad dad taught at TCU for 2 years, so I have some love for the Horny Toads. I'm concerned for them and truly hope they land in a good place (while spitting blood in bailor's eyes on the way out).

btw, TCU was the very first university to send my daughter (then a sophomore in high school) one of those hey-why-don't-you-submit-a-college-application-to-us letters. Good school, nice campus, their student body is easy on the eyes, nice alumni (notwithstanding the recent embitterment of a State Senator or Rep or two...), generally welcoming fans at tailgates and games, nice stadium, nice basketball stadium, small but nice baseball stadium, over-achievers on the field, a worthy opponent. They can bring some value to the table in this new mix-up of conferences.

My money is on a merging of the B1G and Pac 12 if there are big changes. Those conferences have been in bed with each other forever that the Rose Bowl tie.

Although the B1G is sitting in a relatively strong position, while the PAC is not. Some B1G commenters (speculators/homers) are projecting a grab of only the 4 California schools with the others PAC schools left hanging. Others are saying no merger, just some sort of scheduling partnership.

Reminds me of the scenario that played out between the SWC and Big 8 - one conference absorbed the handful of schools they wanted (with one exception that was forced on them by a certain governor) and the others were left to figure it out. I could see the B1G bringing on some combination of USC, UCLA, Oregon, Stanford, Cal and Washington, leaving the others to scramble.

I think they take 6 if it happens. Not sure how they'd leave out Washington who checks all the boxes for the B1G, though I'm an alum so biased.

I'd leave out Cal. They bring nothing athletically.

Academically, Berzerkley brings the most overrated, undereducated group of dumbasses to graduate from a four year college in this country. That includes A&M, NMSU, NEOA&M, Parsons (if it's still open), or choose your favorite waste of money, including those TV ad schools.

Most disappointing two groups of graduates I've encountered in my long career in business are definitely Cal & UCLA.

If you're the B1G you have to be concerned about diluting the $54M/year that was paid to schools in 2019-2020. Double dipping in places like AZ, OR, WA and in the SF metro market don't make sense. USC/UCLA is the only argument for taking 2 in the same market, IMHO.

The only problem with a 6 from the West Coast is which 4 teams from the current B1G would get stuck traveling A LOT. Geographically I can't imagine Nebraska, Iowa, Wisconsin and Minnesota would be supportive of all that travel to the PST timezone.

USC & Stanford are the jewels because the BigTen is already getting Nike money without having to put up with looking at those hideous uniforms.

I dunno. Nebraska might like the recruiting angle of going to the West Coast frequently. As much grief as California sometimes catches around here, they’re usually the #2 football recruiting state. USC can only take so many, and Stanford can only take smart kids. Nebraska can admit anyone with a pulse, and it produces very little home grown top-level football talent.
