The Incredible Hulk

How tall is Brad Pitt? I'm thinking Thor would be around 7 feet or so, if he existed.

Personally I'd rather see a Thundercats feature or a decent remake of He-Man.

mia,

I'm saying, all things equal, leave it like the comic. Some changes have to be made for the sake of a 2-hour movie, others seem to be for Hollywood effect, which I think has backfired in movies like Spider-Man 3 and some of the Batman sequels. Iron Man has been the most comic book-ish in its approach and it's the best one so far IMO. I don't see how the Hulk speaking a few child-like lines(like most of the comics) could have done anything but add dimension to the character and story. But that's me. My biggest gripe w/movie changes would have to be the Spider-Man movies where the whole Mary Jane sappy love story basically hijacks the movie(s). Whereas the actual comic storyline(in which Mary Jane isn't even his girlfriend to begin with - it is Gwen Stacy who gets killed by the Goblin) is ten times more interesting whether it be movie, comic or whatever.

I'm still a bit stunned that they're even going to attempt an Avengers movie - but we'll see. They obviously have to pick and choose which characters to leave in/out since there have been so many members. I'm just hoping the Vision plays a big role.

Couple of thoughts- the first Captain America movie should be entirely set in WWII.

My excuse for buying cartoon DVDs is to have something to show nephes and nieces when they visit. That being said- "The Justice League- New Frontier" isn't bad.

trkhorn, I would argue that the problem with Spidey 3 and some of the Batman sequels is not that they went off book, but that they were just bad films. It wasn't that they changed the story it was that they forgot to tell one.

I'm not saying that you don't have a point, I'm just saying that I really don't think any of Hulk's changes were that bad. The first responsibility is to get people to buy into the character, if that means the first time we see him he is more savage, so be it. Honestly, if you made him be able to talk (though it should be noted that he did talk in this movie), that means we would had to see more of Liv Tyler having dialogue with a green screen... and she has a hard time holding her own with an actual actor.

Ultimately, I think the difference between what we've seen so far from The Avengers lead up is that it was written and produced by people who understood the characters. They understood where and how they could change the canon and they've done it to good effect. This wasn't true with Spidey or Batman (or X-Men, Fantastic Four... etc), because Marvel wasn't producing at that point. I think it gives these movies a leg up from concept. The truth is we may very well see more DC characters if Marvel pulls this off... but it won't be the same, since DC is owned by by Time Warner who is an established house. DC won't have the control or the speed to market since they will have to compete against the existing TW schedule.

I saw it this weekend. The producers made a good decision when they decided to emphasize Blonky's story over Banner's (btw, great decision in "Iron Man" and "Hulk" to use good actors like Downey, Norton, Brifhes, paltrow, Hurt, and Roth; it's really helping sell what are fairly ridiculous premises). The problem with the idea of a basically good, but dangerously powerful and misunderstood brute, is that it has been done before...many, many times. The Hulk, as configured, is really not interesting unless he's fighting something equally scary.

Now, the Abomination/Blonsky character was interesting.

Spoiler

The 2nd to last scene- where Banner is inducing a Hulk transformation- does that imply he is enjoying the Hulk experiences? That would certainly align with Blonsky's addiction to more power, nevermind the costs.

Hulk a bad guy in the avengers? no!

Iron Man 2 in 2010 with a guest appearence from Thor. then Thor is slated for release in June 2010. then Captain America comes out in May 2011, and then the Avengers in July 2011.

that's not a very long time between the two...

Kramer, the early avengers storylines were frequently about containing/stopping the Hulk. He wasn't bad just primal and unpredictable and he needed to be dealt with. If I'm mistaken that is exactly what they were doing when they found the frozen captain america.

carera, it isn't high art, but it is certainly entertaining.

movie was just below OK. the worst line though was "Hulk SMASH" I know it's a classic quote, but ****, it felt completely out of space in the movie

that "Hulk Smash!!!" part was awesome.

What I never get is how when movies have military guys in it they don't have some military consultant to make sure they get the military stuff right. Might cost ten grand.

BTW movie was great but why would they have a Royal Marine in a US Army Uniform? I actually pay attention in movies, even movies like these, and I was like trying to figure wtf was going on the for about 2 minutes after they inroduced (the great) Tim Roth.

The key to these movies is immersion so why not make sure the things that aren't fantasy are correct?

Attention to detail makes movies great

Hulk another line in the movie, when they were in the bottling plant.

He said "Leave me alone", but if you weren't listening for it very carefully, it might have come off sounding like simple grunting.

I liked the movie, and would expect more dialogue from the Hulk as Banner gets more control over it.

Just saw it tonight - I liked it. Couldn't agree more with whoever said that they way Liv Tyler talks is annoying. My wife and I both said the same thing.

No mention yet of the Omar sighting?
