The First 100 days

This is not draining the swamp. It IS the swamp.

Today the Trump administration announced 40 appointments to an array of government boards for his close allies.

The White House announced in a press release Tuesday that Hope Hicks, a longtime aide and one of his most trusted confidantes, would be a member of the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship board. Pam Bondi, a former Florida attorney general and another close ally, will also sit on the board of trustees of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

Former acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell will be a member of the United States Holocaust Memorial Council, and Stephanie Grisham, a former White House communications director and first lady Melania Trump’s current chief of staff, will sit on the board of directors of the National Board for Education Sciences.

Grift!

This is grift lite. Major grift is when you profit off bad legislation that hurt the non-elite. Not really comparable.
So "grift lite" is OK as long as it's the party you support? To me, either you're part of the grift or not. You can't say you're there to "drain the swamp" then simultaneously wallow in it. If your interested in bad legislation that hurt non-elite and benefited elite I'd point to that major tax cut in 2016.

Every president is entitled to do a little resume padding for his loyalists. I don’t like him but he hasn’t pardoned Marc Rich on his way out.
I say cut him some slack

I’ve agreed with Huisache and Bubba on the same day. If I find some way to agree with Husker, I am buying a Powerball ticket tomorrow. It’s like hitting the trifecta at the Kentucky Derby.

I don't agree with running up more debt, but if you're going to do it, at least do it right. What's $600 going to do? That's a week of pay for someone making min wage. Will hardly make an impact.

Trump throws wrench into COVID relief by saying he won't sign bipartisan bill
Sending direct money to citizens (like social security) is the best way to do it. Yes, money can get debased over time if overdone, but it would be applied equally vs your typical government program where winners and losers are chosen.

The swamp pardons the swamp. Dec. 22, 2020 was a good day to be a disgraced Republican congressman. Duncan Hunter, Chris Collins. Additionally, lying to federal investigators was always OK per Stone/Flynn clemency/pardon but was reinforced. Taking care of your loyalists is acceptable per at least one member on Hornfans.

The means testing (less than $99k AGI) further ensures it will get to the people that need it most. In most cases, that money will get spent quickly ensuring it is actually a stimulus to the economy and not saved/invested.

Hey...Trump now pardons Roger Stone, Paul Manafort and Jared Kushner's dad. Just the swamp enhancing the swamp. Sleaziest POTUS since Nixon? Yes, that's even considering Slick Willie.

Or Trump giving the middle finger to the swamp for the illegal leaks, etc.? Could have been avoided if he was re-elected.

Manafort, Roger Stone and Charles Kushner is a middle finger to the swamp for illegal leaks? It's Christmas so I'll go gentle and simply say God bless you.

Anyway, I agree with you 50% on these pardons but here is the alternative view. If you have a problem with the pardons, take it up with him:

As of November. With latest round, Trump slightly edges HW Bush.

You're arguing "volume" and I'm pointing at the personal connections to Trump. The Pardon power is an awesome responsibility. Y'all are equivocating pardoning some random person in jail for drug possession with Trump's closest allies.

Here a Harvard professor is tracking what is now 94 Pardons/Commutations for Trump. Of the 94 only 7 were recommended by a DOJ attorney, a department setup to vet requests and avoid the abuse we are witnessing. 40 of the 94 have a direct relationship with Trump or someone close to Trump. This is cronyism. It's the antithesis of "law and order". Our country is being run by a mob boss whose fanbase will bend over backwards to justify their actions.

SeattleHusker. You are completely correct. This is literally the swamp. Putting political appointees into full time, career bureaucratic positions. It hurts us all and there is nothing voters can truly do about it.

Only a misguided Liberal would say that a tax cut that resulted in better GDP growth, the lowest unemployment ever reached for minorities, the highest level stock markets have ever reached, increased tax revenues for the Feds, and real growth in income for the American middle class would be bad legislation.

Keep in mind, the added tax revenue allows Congress to fund more transgendered Pakistanis.

Actually the best thing to do and the only thing that will truly help is to lift all mask mandates and business restrictions.

But you weren't bitching when Obama pardoned a couple thousand convicts. Isn't that also the antithesis of law and order? You also tried to justify Obama sending $1.8billion in cash to the world's leading terror sponsor. My how your biased brain makes you look foolish time after time.

Trump tried the "right way" at first and what did it get him? Leaks and idiots who wanted to make a fast buck by writing tell-all books about him. Trump needs to have close allies in positions of power from now on (if a miracle happens of course) .

Garmel, adding to the Swamp isn't the answer. He can fire anyone who doesn't implement his policy. He can have evaluations done to see who's who. What he shouldn't do is add to the Swamp. This is exactly why we are in the position we are in. This is why the government doesn't work anymore. All these permanent politicians are creating their own satrapis with no consideration for any of us.

Post of the year.

I made more money in last 4 years (2017-2020) than the previous 12 years combined (2005-2016).
