It could have remained in some capacity as a reminder of the previous field, part of the fan experience, possibly for seating? A little forethought back then but it’s all a moot point now as the structure is long gone and It’s just for us fans to reminisce about the possibilities.
 
Yes: Billy goat hill, Wrigley, Fenway, Camden Yards, Enron/Minute Maid, most of the new MLB parks

No: Riverfront Stadium, 3 Rivers Stadium, Oakland Coliseum, Metrodome, Astrodome (love hate relationship with that place), Veterans Stadium, Shea Stadium.
