The Dark Knight

groverat hit it on the head.

SPOILERS BELOW:

The funeral was faked like Gordon's death was. He is locked up in Arkham hidden away. This way he "dies" a martyr.

By the way, anyone else see Gordon's daughter and think...oh, there's the future batgirl?

Due to being nothing more than a taxi driver for my children these days, I get to see very few movies in the theatre.  So, although my recent viewings have been very minimal, I thought this was a great, great movie.

Thought it was pretty damn good, Ledger was excellent, thoroughly enjoyed the Joker.

***SPOILER****

90 Grad I hope you are right, from the moment they showed that Harvey Dent would be in the film I was expecting the next movie to be Two Face centric. I was really disappointed and a little pissed when it looked like they killed him off, hopefully it is a Gordon situation.

Meh. Color me in the disappointed category. But I came in with extremely high recommendations from people who claimed they weren't fanboys, yet saw the Thursday showing.

I thought it was ok-good, but nothing special. I think this is the only superhero movie I've seen where I can't remember anything special about the main character at all. I found the two main suspenseful moments (spoiler: The Bombs and The Boats) incredibly contrived. It was a fun movie, but I liked Batman Begins a lot better.

Overall, good movie. editing was horrible!!! They cut out all of Ledger's hand motions. I feel the Joker would have been even crazier if they would have shown his hand gestures.

Someone else said something about Bale's Batman, monotone or something to that effect, couldn't agree more.

Good movie, over-rated a bit!!!!

I think Bale needs to tone the grumbling voice down a bit. It gets hard to hear what he says sometimes. Then again, maybe that's the point.

I saw it last night and I think it's one of the best comic book movies ever.

You people that said you were disappointed I don't see where you were coming from. This movie was absolutely awesome. Batman begins I thought was great and this surpassed that one.

Only regret was that they didn't bring back Katie Holmes for the eye candy factor, but whatever, the movie still kicked ***.

Ledger was waaaaay better than Jack as the Joker, it really wasn't even close. I thought Bale was pretty good as Batman and Morgan Freeman is greatness. Just a great movie.

Best movie of the year. Ledger stole the show. Brilliant portrayal of the Joker. Thats how he was meant to be shown as a true "agent of chaos." There was just enough of the clown side of him to give even more intensity to the character.

The voice for Batman is a little annoying, but he can't sound like Wayne and he has to intimidate people, its part of the whole Batman persona.

Funny........I saw it last night, and came away thinking "where have I heard that voice before?"

Then, tonight, I'm surfing channels, and see Heartbreak Ridge on Spike, and, voila......Gunnery Sergeant Highway!

OMG SPOILER ALERT - DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE OSCAR WORTHY DARK KNIGHT MOVIE!!!

Did Joker give Batman the wrong address and have him save Dent or did Batman choose to save him? On this, I was unclear. More of a spoiler question I guess. Thank you.

Although well above average, Heath Ledger’s portrayal of The Joker was nothing special. It has been exaggerated due to the tragedy. The credit for the performance should go to the makeup artist and costume designers who both did an amazing job. I’ll admit to being very critical of Ledger’s performance because of all the hype, so that has affected my opinion. I don’t think anyone can play crazy as well as Jack. Yes, Ledger’s makeup and costume were better. Ledger’s writing was better, so overall his performance was better, but Jack’s acting was better IMO.

Bale does need to work on his raspy Batman voice. The director should have paid better attention to that. Otherwise, he played Bruce Wayne perfectly.

Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman did amazing performances (as usual) with minor characters who needed to be subtle. Both actors are top notch.

Gyllenhaal’s performance didn’t stack up to what Holmes was able to do in the previous movie. I’ll admit Holmes’ beauty alone can captivate an audience without any special acting skill.

Eckhart’s Two-Face portrayal was missing something. Not enough crazed anger or rage just below the surface. He played Harvey Dent very well. The writing for Two-Face was shoddy. The motivation to go after Gordan’s family wasn’t clear or didn’t make sense.

Gary Oldman (Gordan) did a great job. He has a natural way of conveying empathy and sadness in his eyes. His performance was what you’d expect from watching the last movie. He also plays Sirius Black in Harry Potter. You didn’t know this because he’s a great actor.

Rating the Performances:

1. Heath Ledger & Morgan Freeman
2. Gary Oldman, Christian Bale & Michael Caine (very close second)
3. Aaron Eckhart (quite a drop from 2nd)
4. Maggie Gyllenhaal

EDIT:

MOMENT OF GENIUS

When The Joker leaves Harvey Dent's hospital room and disinfects his hands. That was a perfect scene. Ledger nailed that.

i thought it was awesome. i don't see how people are comparing the jokers as the movies are totally different. the previous batman series, while entertaining, was cartoony and not based on the comic books. i don't like bale's voice as batman.. i didn't like it in begins either. wtf..
i think he's a great batman/wayne nonetheless. i actually forgot holmes was in the first one and was a little shocked they got maggie. she sucks.

already looking forward to the next.

I enjoyed it but I still left the theater unsatisfied. I wasn't disappointed, but ultimately the movie didn't meet the expectations I had built up.

I was pleased with both Ledger and Eckhart. The villians were the only characters that captivated me (Freeman as well I suppose).

Overall I'd say it was very good, not great. Certainly not the epic I was expecting. I'm not sure where all the Oscar talk is stemming from...

Best movie I've seen since No Country For Old Men. Ledger was astonishing.

I bet he killed himself because he came face-to-face with Jake Gyllenhaal's little brother and remembered what he did.

Kidding.

Rachel was sure that Batman would be saving her. Her last moments were one of confusion and betrayal. Well acted and written scene.

Wow. Just saw The Dark Knight at the IMAX. I'm going back for seconds.

Ledger was exceptional. Wasn't really a fan before tonight. Dude was off the charts.

Gyllenhaal is damn Sexy... in a girl next door kinda way. Solid acting.

Bale was solid.

The story itself is so much better than any other comic-book-turned-movie that it's in a league of it's own. And extremely well executed.

Special effects/sound/IMAX experience made this one of the best movie watching experiences I've had.
