the best player on our team...

I would be interested in seeing what percentage of the time we scored a TD on drives where Chiles was at QB. I'd bet it's pretty damn high. That zone read with him and McGee is pretty salty.

I like Chiles, he has worked hard and stayed out of trouble, but all these ridiculous expectations being put on him - based on nothing that has happened on the field at a college level -are not helping him.

As I've said before he isnt as good of a runner as Reggie McNeal and he isnt 5% of the passer Reggie McNeal was and Reggie was still only a slightly above average big 12 QB.

I think people are excited about Chile's athleticism and abilities, but this excitement should be tempered a little. The kid is only a true sophomore who is still a work in progress. I like the idea that the coaches are looking to get him on the field more and at different positions. It just makes sense to get as many playmakers on the field as you can.

From what I've heard, Chiles is the fastest guy on the team. There was some talk last year that had he and Charles neck and neck in the 40, with the winner going to the guy who had the better start.

Chiles is a big guy, a good looking athlete. Can't you look back at rosters and name the fastest guy on the team for just about every year? I can. I don't think it's that unusual for the fastest player to get a lot of hype.

Chiles gets more hype than he maybe deserves, but a lot of that has nothing to do with him and everything to do with the fact that he came in after VY's superman year and was expected by everyone to carry the zone read torch.

All I can say is that even from the little we saw from him last year, there isn't a player on this offense that I would rather see in the open field with the ball in his hands than John Chiles. That might change whenever we get to see Fozzy, but we just don't have many guys who have big play potential and Chiles is one of them.

Don't get me wrong, we have lots of solid players who arent slow. Chiles has another gear, thats all. Quan might have been super fast in HS, but not anymore. Shipley is fast, but he's not as fast as Chiles and certainly not as big. That leaves VM and FW, and of those two only Fozzy might be more electric in the open than Chiles.

I want Chiles at some position other than QB. He might develop a good arm at some point if he stays there, but it seems like Sherrod is the better prospect and in any case Colt won't give up his job (barring injury) for another year after this one. That would give Chiles all of one year to make an impact as a starter.

John Chiles has more to offer this team than one Tee Martin-type year, but I think he'll have to contribute at some other position than QB.

If the coaches are serious about getting him more PT, then play him at QB more, but if I am the coaches, I get him in the lineup like Ramonce.... RB, slot, flanker, wideout, in motion, etc. Chiles is not the next VY but the kid can run well. Vince could pass, Chiles cannot at this point. IMO he will not become a good or decent passer before he is done.
