the best player on our team...

...is always the backup QB.

Hey, it's the offseason, and I want to beat the @#$% out of last year's (now very ripe) dead horse: What to do with John Chiles? Yes, Chiles and Harris are both competing for the backup QB spot, possibly for two more years. But it's Chiles I want to discuss. Last year many posters felt like we HAD to get this kid on the field. Anyone still feel that way?

There is a consensus in 2008 that we've had attrition at the skill positions, and much speculation about whom is going to step up this year. But I don't see Chiles' name mentioned a lot. And the current buzz is all around our stellar 2009 haul. Have we forgotten what a playmaker this Chiles is?

Let the beating begin.

Chiles could do just what he did last year and be very effective. Problem was the coaches didn't play him enough.

This year he should get more reps in the passing game and progress in that area. I say give him this entire year to continue to evaluate him and his future at the position.

Honestly, I don't really see what so special about Chiles. How much of a playmaker can he be when the defense knows he doesn't throw well. I don't recall any long runs from him either last season (could be bad memory on my part of course).

Offense: Quan
Defense : Deon Beasley

I am going by who I think will be the best player this year.
I think Deon becomes a lock down, interception happy CB.

I can see how a guy who completed 10 percent of his passes and ran for 5 yards a carry would be considered the best player on the team...

Half of you obviously did not read my post. The "best player" statement was tongue-in-cheek.

Chiles is an amazing athlete, whom I'm not sure will ever end up at QB. I'm just wondering where he'll end up, and if not at QB, should we try to use him in the slot or in the backfield?

I went to a lunch yesterday where Major spoke. Major was adamant about Sherrod being the back up. Had some good things to say about Sherrod (and Chiles as well).

Well, from what I have read Chiles is going to see the field a lot this season. Chiles will see time at QB, WR, and sometimes with Colt at RB. Imagine being a defender and seeing Colt McCoy standing next to John Chiles in the backfield. Who do you key on?

After the spring game, Coach Brown stated that he would like to get Chiles in the game more this season. But before that, Coach Brown stated before and after the Holiday Bowl that Chiles would be playing more. Also, check the old AAS online and I think there was one about Chiles new bigger role on team.
