The 2021 Football season

Always want to see players do the ‘Hookem’ instead of anything else but what the heck I reckon sense I particularly like those two I’ll forgive Bijan. I know it matters to them, ha.

TFB notes --

So far the players have only had their initial zoom meetings with their coaches.

Sounds like they have cleared the nickel room. They have broken the DBs into safeties and corners and Adimora and Cook are both with Coach Gideon in the safety room right now. From what we are told they are going to be looking for a really good cover nickel so that will be an open competition and they may even wind up putting a corner there.

Jalen Green ... received an offer from Mississippi State. You can make the connection there with former Texas DB coach Jason Washington. We are told there is still a chance he may stick around at Texas.
Tell Jalen I want him to stay.

Here is the defense that Kwiatkowski will bring to UT against spread offenses in the B12:

Dare I say a little more sophisticated than what we have seen before? Note, only 1 DB up close even on the triple receiver side, but all receivers are covered in the scheme.

Oh, sometimes the blitzer lines up deep, then creeps or delays. All the different defenses start from basically a similar look. Hello, Gary Patterson.

It is their Offensive team now along with RoJo, Whittington, Smith and Wiley or Schooler. Omeire will be somewhere and I bet Sanders will be also.

Like Bijan's shirt. :hookem2:

Mike Roach --

Players on campus returned to workouts today with new Director of Football Performance Torre Becton. One source I spoke with said the difference between Becton and former strength coach Yancy McKnight was "night and day." I was told the players got along with him well today and he focuses on the details. Yancy McKnight certainly has a strong resume of results, but one source told me they felt what Becton did today applied to the field a little more. I think the atmosphere was a little more relaxed from what I heard. In fact, one former player told me that at times under McKnight and Herman, workouts felt like prison

Free article from IT -- "Kwiatkowski’s track record versus the Air Raid and what it means in the Big 12"

" ..... “When you go from one extreme at Texas Tech to the other extreme at Iowa State and everybody else in between, I think you have to be multiple,” Sarkisian said about his defense. “You can’t be one dimensional. It won’t be an experiment for (Kwiatkowski) because he’s been doing that now for the past 7-10 years from a coordinator standpoint.”

The Pac-12 wasn’t as diverse offensively as the Big 12, but it was likely a close second in the metric. As a result, Sarkisian is confident in his defensive coordinator’s ability to stop the spread offenses he will see during most Big 12 matchups based off Kwiatkowski’s track record."

Very good one, IMO

FWIW, the timing of these type of productions are usually not random by us. Matt Lange and company are usually putting these out with a certain recruit (or recruits) they are pitching at that moment. It's sort of a read between the lines guide to who we are hot after in recruiting.

The ISU defense will be stout again
Their nose tackle, and 2 of 3 safeties get an extra senior year thanks to the covid rule

In the playoff era, four teams have won at least 80% of their games: Alabama (.919), Ohio State (.901), Clemson (.899) and Oklahoma (.815). All four won their conference last year, along with 22 of 28 league titles in the playoff era and represent 20 of 28 playoff participants.

Also of note, UGA is in 5th spot w roughly 78% overall win% and a few CFP appearances including 1 Final.

On a different but related note.....
Of the teams with highest win%, ou is 0/4 and has not reached finals.
In general, 2015 Ohio St notwithstanding, the 4 spot isn't a place you want to be (ou lost once from the 2 spot)
CFP Stats
Appearances in CFP, wins, losses, overall win%, semi record, finals record
Alabama 10 8 3 0.727 5-1 3-2
Clemson 10 6 4 0.600 4-2 2-2
Ohio State 5 3 3 0.500 2-2 1-1
Oklahoma 4 0 4 0.000 0-4 0-0
LSU 2 2 0 1.000 1-0 1-0
Oregon 2 1 1 0.500 1-0 0-1
Georgia 2 1 1 0.500 1-0 0-1
Notre Dame 2 0 2 0.000 0-2 0-0
Florida State 1 0 1 0.000 0-1 0-0
Michigan State 1 0 1 0.000 0-1 0-0
Washington 1 0 1 0.00. 0-1 0-0

more quotes from the interweb ...

Talked to an old friend yesterday who works with FBS ADs and Head Coaches around the country and he had this to say about what's going on at Texas:

"Any fans dumb enough not to be crazy excited about the recruiting potential, OC & DC and returning ability is bat **** nuts and should have their fan cards taken away. Its f'ing go time now in Austin."

"Ya'll got no idea what ya got for 2021 potential."

On our phone call he also said emphatically that the RRR next season will be for a playoff spot. He lives in Oregon and also works with most of the Pac-12 schools and said that Kwiatkowsi is THE BEST in the business - doesn't get a lot of the spotlight because he has been in the Pac-12 for so long.

If things play out well, then the CCG will be the play in game for a playoff spot.

Texas will start spring practice on March 23
the Tuesday after spring break.

Practice will be Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday for five weeks.

The spring game could potentially be played near the end of April.
