Thank You Maalik

Uhhh… the guy who leaves the company doesn’t get the bonus if he leaves before it’s paid. For better or worse, that’s the way the world works. You’re not around at the final whistle, you don’t get the ring. And I absolutely appreciate the contributions he made in the K State and BYU games. And I appreciate that he’s well liked amongst his teammates.

that's not actually true in other pro sports. just sayin

All this kumbaya will go away if Ewers gets knocked out and Manning looks like a cat on a hot tin roof and we lose the NC.
True if Manning looks like that. I personally think that Manning is further along in his development as qb than Malik simply because he has lived in a qb room his entire life and has been training as a qb that time as well. In his limited time, he appeared fairly quick in his decision making and looked comfortable (I know it was against a beat down Tech and Osu). The question then is why he was not qb 2. I think that Sark was playing the long game with Manning and did not want to take a chance on burning his redshirt. At the time, Sark could not be sure how long Ewers would be out and I am guessing he felt like he could win with Murphy, which they did. I have a hard time thinking that Manning would have made some of the ill-advised throws that Murphy made or wouldn't take care of the ball better, especially with the running ability. If he brings Manning in and Ewers is out for four games, the redshirt is gone. I think Manning is at least as well equipped as Murphy to step in if Ewers goes down and his running will add a dimension that UW will have to account for. I think the line protects Ewers against UW and hopefully in the Championship game.

Note Manning has played in 2 games and has 2 games left without burning his RS. No coincidence that there are only 2 games left in the season.

The Manning family said all along Arch needs to RS. If they changed their mind sometime during the season I am sure they knew how to contact Sark.

I would argue that there may “never” have been an incoming freshman QB as well prepared as Arch Manning. In addition to the obvious and extraordinary genetic connections, this young man has had more training — and access to training — than any 18 year old QB, probably in history.

Does that mean that he will excel on the field immediately, and that he is ready? Of course, there’s no guarantee. But given the level of preparation and training, and the pedigree, I am certainly optimistic that if called upon, he will deliver.

At the same time and given all his positives I hope fans including here do not start blasting him when he makes the inevitble mistakes.
The pressure on this kid, even with his talent, is enormous.

Duke is a good choice in terms of immediate playing time and don’t forget Duke has put a couple of QB’s into the NFL already and he gets a great education to boot. Like Purdue for Hud, I like this choice and I wish Maalik all the best.

FW,

Duke didn't put anyone in the NFL. Cut developed those kids' talent just as he did Peyton and Eli. The man was one of the best QB coaches of all time.

I like Maalik, but my dislike of Diaz goes back before he arrived in Travis County. Hiring him was a giant red flag that Mack had quit coaching, and was depending on others to do his job.

Hope Duke's offense scores 50 points a game, and their defense gives up 51
