Thank God we said we're sorry. only 4 killed

My understanding is that burning the Koran would be the proper way of disposing of the book that was desecrated by the men writing in them to pass notes. Am I wrong? If so, why exactly are we apologizing? Seems to be that the POTUS jumped to the wrong conclusion, just as with the Cambridge Police situation. Tha's one hell of a Commander in Chief.

So, nobody wants to tackle the question about how the apologies are tied to the killings? What a shock.

The whole "reason" for the thread was to provide a launch pad for the same tired criticism of the president. You're not interested in the issue at all, you are only interested in getting in your rote punches whether they're relevant or not.

How are the apologies linked to the killings? Is there causation? What?

If you can't answer that, then you prove what Horn6721 is evidently doing with his absence: This whole thing is non sequitur.

I've always felt that apologies in general are ridiculous when coming from government. I did read that the Afghani government has apologized for the subsequent killings. Does anyone believe that really means anything?

Bottom line is that governments screw up and apologize all the time. It would be nice if the government had felt compelled to apologize when the army burned Bibles back a few years ago out of fear of how it would look to Muslims if we did NOT burn them, but I'm not holding my breath.

Bottom line is that this is wasted energy and attention on both sides, IMO.

Nice post Prodigal. I differ on the efficacy of the occasional apology, but I also don't overestimate the results of governmental apologies.

Nice try, I guess, Leftwich. I don't see how the apology encourages further violence. We've got plenty of military presence in the skies and on the ground to assuage anybody's insecurity that we are not looking "tough enough."

There are plenty of reasons to criticize Obama, this notion of his apology causing violence is absurd speculation. Also, arguing that we should match the standard of a terrorist enemy is just plain idiocy. We're the ones who claim to stand for something.

Who said the apology caused the violence?

Look, Obama just served as the Judge and Jury here. He had plenty of volunteers to serve as executioner.

Do the soldiers get a trial at some point or is it a moot point?

So Roma, do you think the soldiers that burned the books deserve a trial?

Seems to me that their commander already convicted them.

Shiner,

Convicted them of what? Are there charges? Are they being punished? Did they disobey orders?

I don't know what you mean or the facts of what you are writing about.

Do you think only prosecutable acts deserve an apology?

In fact, you seem to suggest that apologies are in order only after a conviction. That is a higher bar than most people use.

I'm sorry if I've misread your intentions.

Very simply I think our President should have learned with Cambridge that waiting until he has all the facts would be a good idea.

Okay, that appears to be nuts. Tried on what charge?

This is a statement from the Afghan delegates to the people of Afghanistan. I wonder if it's accurate as it portrays NATO's position.

I am 2 days away and insanity ensues.
The OP was to point out that all the many apologies from BO and his minions helped ease the tensions . WE all know how out of hand islamists can get. As tragic and senseless as it was hisotry shows us it could have been worse.
Tragic that 4 of our own got killed 7 wounded and what 50.? afghanis died. The violence seems to have subsided- Reuters reported 9 died in an airport bombing last night.

But if we actyally put on trial, public or otherwise any soldier who may or many not have burned desecrated korans.

Just get all of ours and other NATO out now. leave evertyhing, they will desstroy it anyway. just get out, Not ONE more precious life should be lost in that hell hole.

I also note that Bo refuses to release the contents of the 3 page letter to karzai. so much for his transparency.
