Texas @ WVU 01/06/2024

Texas shot 53% (43% from 3)
90% from the line
Out rebounded WVU by 22 but had one less offensive board

24 Turnovers and still managed a 21 point win on the road playing #24

Maybe not pretty but a convincing win in Morgantown

And I’m definitely in the “in Vic I trust” camp but could we not have played some subs? Can’t imagine they would’ve been as sloppy as Booker was at the end of the game.

Oddest stat of the day: Zero points off turnovers for both teams. Is that correct?

WVU forces an average of 25 turnovers per game, so there’s that. Vic will have tons of film to teach with, no doubt

I may be in a camp all on my own, but if Madi’s turnovers don’t cost us the game then they’re excusable to me. She’s a freshman taking on the most important role on the #10 team in the country. I’m optimistic that she will improve but for now I’m okay with her. :hookem2::hookem2::hookem2:

Just gotta remember we are starting a freshman at point guard. She is still learning the position..turnovers happen.
I am concerned a bit that we don't create playing time for Gisella Maul. We could need her at some point this year.:bevo:

You are in the camp of the majority, those of us that realize Madi is a freshman. Others may expect near-perfection, but that view is typical of Board overreaction.

Even if Madi's inexperience costs us a game (as could be argued in the Baylor game), I still pinch myself at how lucky we are to have her.

Agreed. People calling her turnovers silly..are well...silly.

You and your "board overreaction". 8 turnovers by any one player is A LOT! I already stated that she's excelling at everything else. Glad she's on Texas' team and we're not watching her have a fantastic year some where else!

Madi will get better at taking care of the ball as the season goes on. It's the senseless and unforced turnovers by the more experienced players that make me cringe and cuss.

Texas is a twenty point victor over a Tech team who always gives us fits in Lubbock and a ranked West Virginia team at their place 3 days after Tech. Even if Rori were playing I would say that was a difficult stretch. With Madison at point, it’s nothing short of amazing. Does Madi have some maturing to do with reducing turnovers, sure. But dang y’all, Madison Booker is good. Real good.

Great team win. Lots of positives. Will nitpick tomorrow.

To everyone, I say repeat this to yourselves over and over again: "Madi is a true freshman, not a true point guard, and never expected to be the starting PG for conference play while playing almost all 40 minutes". She's doing an incredible job.

WV is a team full of quick guards and all teams like that will give Horns a problem rest of season. I continue to tell myself that NOT all teams have that. It’s about matchups. It’s possible that our playoff opponent won’t be like that. We match up well with a LOT of playoff teams. I’m putting in a call to the bracket composers to give us good matchups. Eight turnovers is a lot. Even for Doncic but I’m not trading Booker or Doncic. I also have to remind myself what a nightmare she causes for the opponent. That Dirk one-legged fade-away was a thing of beauty. I believe she’ll cut down on the TOs. Improvement will come from her AND her teammates as both figure it out. I’ve already got my tickets to Waco game and we’ll see if they improve enough to take on the Baylor guards. Great win today.

My condolences to you for your upcoming trip to Waco. I did that trip once. Never again. Those fans are as ugly as they come. Poor winners. Poor losers. Even the popcorn was pitiful. And God forgive me for saying it, but they don’t make arena seats wide enough for 80% of them.

WV took 60 shots. 31 of them were threes. They made four of those threes. I’m scratching my head. Was making a bunch of threes the game plan?

It didn’t sound like it with their coach’s interview at the half lol
Hence only 9 taken in the last two quarters

Well WCBBNUT, I went to a game in Waco about a decade ago and Horns got beat by 40. Worst was I was a passenger with 3 Bear fans. I swore never again. However, with their new arena just opening AND the Horns better, I agreed to go back with the same Bear fans. The agreement was before Harmon injury. I’m still confident so not backing out. It’ll be a long drive home to Carrollton for the Bear fans.

We’ll get the W in Waco. Guaranteed. And those bear fans (maybe not your friends) will show you the horns down and blame the refs while they all run to their pickup trucks and race to Applebee’s before the line gets too long. :smokin: And I’m sure the popcorn at the new arena will still be pitiful.

I thought the way we broke the press to start the game was smart; it was mainly passing versus dribbling; and, the pace was calm.

When Muhammad went to the bench, that's when things seemed chaotic. Moore was trying to dribble instead of pass and that can't happen; I get that she subbed in for Amina, but she doesn't have the same quickness and handles to be part of the 3-players in the backcourt trying to fight off the defensive pressure. This is where I think Vic shouldn't have tried the same strategy because the personnel on the court had changed; he has to adjust his scheme based on who is helping break the press. I kept wondering why Gonzales and Holle weren't in the back court with Booker. Since the TV cameras weren't showing down court, not sure if Holle and Gonzales were set ready to take 3-point shots or what.

I get that it was only game 4 without Rori, but too much is being put on Booker, IMO. Yes, we just don't have enough ball handlers. But, got not wear out Booker as you could tell she was getting frustrated with her own turnovers. Vic has to find a way to spread the responsibility of bringing the ball up the court.

Baylor completed a new basketball arena and are already playing in it.

Baylor opens new basketball arena on bank of Brazos River

It's connected to an existing building literally to the West of I-35. I could see it being built during trips between Austin and Dallas.

2nd game without Jack making an appearance? Vic has tightened his rotation and she's the odd one out ?
