Second consecutive road game and this is going to be a tough one. We've speculated that Quinnerly was on her way to Texas last Spring but that never materialized. Based on her remarks at the Big 12 media day about wanting to play Texas again, I suspect there was some truth to the scenario somewhere. I expect her to be fired up and ready to go.

A winter storm warning is in effect for the Morgantown area beginning Saturday so I hope the team is on their way early today. If we can somehow escape with a win by whatever margin I'll be happy. We'll need to play solid team defense, rebound, protect the ball, and make free throws.

1pm, ESPN+

WVu is another guard-heavy team. They are 12-0, but have played an easy schedule to get there for the most part. Their only 2 big wins are vs. Penn St (was ranked #25 at the time, now unranked) 83-65 and KU (at KU) 85-60. They seem to start 4 small guards and a 6-3 fwd. They have 2 taller players off the bench who get virtually no minutes. Looks like we'll have the height advantage at every position. Vic said Wed. night on the radio post-game that Taylor might be back for this game, so fingers crossed on that one. This game will be WVa's super bowl. They don't come back to ATX this year, so this is their last shot at Vic/Texas in Morgantown and maybe lost shot unless we see them in the B12 tourney. I don't have time to go back and watch the KU game to see what they did to neutralize Jackson (she had 13/10), but she is the only starter on KU with height. Unless KU isn't very good this year, that 25 pt road win is pretty impressive. We'll learn a lot about our development tomorrow. Going to be real interesting to see how they guard Booker when not one of their guards is over 5'10. She should have that pull-up jumper all day.

In addition to Quinnerly, WVU starts Lauren Fields who previously played at OkSt for 3 years and at Arizona for one. They also feature a high scoring guard, Jordan Harrison, who followed the coach from SFA. They are another team who thrives on turning the opponent over. So, once again, ball security and rebounding are huge. WVU gave Cinci lots of open short to mid-range jumpers, Cinci just did not make the shots. Our bigs should have another big night.

Speaking of KU... I'm not sure what the deal is this year. They played UConn a tough game and have had a pretty challenging schedule overall. They have four starters back (I believe all are 5th year players) and a really good freshman. Not sure if they've got a chemistry problem or what.

Vic doing media availability while driving his truck now???

In this presser, I noted Vic commended the Shay sisters for their great defense in the last game. He left Shaylee in 40 mins and Shay in 38 mins when the game was well in hand. I think we can expect to see them on the floor most of the season because of their defense, with any offense out of them being a big plus as well [Shaylee's shot% has even improved this season - 44.3% FG / 43.9% 3-pt / 92.9% FT]

7 TOs given vs 1 TO forced is not going to get it done.

We’re shooting well and getting great shots but this won’t do it. We should be up by a LOT more! Some of these TOs are just confusing.

It’s not pretty but I like the lead! WV trying to play our game and it is leaving them a bit out of control. Someone is going to get hurt

Personally, I feel we are doing pretty well considering…
But yes, if WVU were hitting those wide open 3’s my opinion would be way different.

I would suspect Jones is on some kind of limited minutes today after almost a month out but haven’t heard anybody say that. Anybody know?

Inbounds have been concerning.

Again, though, we’ve played great. But our shooting will (has) cooled down. If it gets closer we are going to struggle and hate those missed opportunities.

WVU averages about 21 3-point attempts per game. They have 22 at the half. Seems like I remember Lauren Fields hitting a bunch on us in Stillwater

Okay, Madison may be excelling in all other areas, but her turnovers are something. I mean, that alley-oop inbounds pass was a silly thing to behold. Isn't there a way to get down the court during a full press rather than throwing the ball "back" to Madison? Having enough trouble getting it across mid-court without adding extra real estate to the task. AND, perhaps it was the easy schedule that made Amina look good, because she has really been having difficulty since conference started. (Hope they don't start making all those open 3s in the second half).

Great stat; thanks for posting. I hope they settle for another 22 in 2H; they only made 4. Texas is shutting down the inside.

You give a lot of grace because it’s still so soon after the Harmon injury, but you can see why Vic is frustrated at times. Still, because those things seem very fixable, it’s got to give you a lot of hope for the rest of the season.

A W is a W, but this was a sloppy mess. Good thing West Virginia wasn't making any shots. 13 steals allowed and Texas had 24 turnovers...8 by Madison. Hope Vic coaches her up this week, including not stopping when trying to get the ball across center court. Never expected a 20+ win, but what do I know?

Yeah that 4th quarter was really sloppy, and definitely had me cussing at the TV.
:cursing:.
But I said I'd be happy with any win we could scratch out so I'll stick with that. Vic's got lots of teaching still to do, and this game film will certainly help.

Booker 4 assists away from a triple-double.
:e-face-shades:
But she ended up with 8 TOs to 7 assts.
:e-eyes:

Candidly, I think fatigue had a lot to do with our TOs in the 4th Qtr. Shaylee and Booker played 40 mins, Shay 38 mins. But 24 TOs is crazy. WVa had only 13.

For those on this board who weren't thrilled when we were trying to recruit Fields the year before last, you were all dead on. She was 1-10 from 3pt range, and 1-12 overall.

WVa was undefeated and we had to play on their court. So this was a good win, but there is a lot we need to fix.

As a friend commented, Texas just forced their will the entire game. This is a deep team. Where would we be w/o Madison taking over the point?
