Texas WBB 2024-2025 Season

Agreed... Vic didn't go out and get Michigan's best player and leading scorer AND first team all Big Ten to come off the bench in Austin.
Agree that she is an amazing get, but keep in mind that she was in the transfer portal because Michigan sucked. They were 9-9 in the Big 10. I wouldn’t say Vic went out and got her. I’d say she knocked and he answered the door.

But my point is less about Phelia and more about Holle. With her as a starter we made it to a one seed last year and are close to doing it again. I just refuse to accept Moo’s premise that Holle is a liability compared to other players. Vic has told us numerous times that she is the glue for this team. We can “assume” Phelia was going to start but we don’t know that. It’s opinion and not fact which is what I was responding to.

Holle maintaining her starting position this year despite Phelia’s arrival is by no means a stretch. Could she have lost it? Sure. But she could have just as easily kept it, and, in FACT, has.

One last thing and then I’ll let this go. Holle certainly doesn’t need me to make her case. Vic makes it for her. That said, Holle’s shooting stats this year as a starter are comparable to Harmon’s with Holle having a slight edge from both lines. But we all know that Harmon does a lot of other things for this team. My point is simply that so does Holle.

Clearly Vic is looking for points from his bigs and Booker. He’s asking for something else from Holle and apparently she is giving it to him. No one on this board knows if Phelia would have given him what he wanted and - as maddening as this is at times - everyone on this board would agree that there was no guarantee that Phelia would have maintained her shooting numbers on a Vic team. Considering what we’ve seen from other shooters who came to Texas we could almost (almost) say that’s a fact. :confused2::beertoast:

I don't even see, this late in the season, why this subject still garners a lot of interest for some posters.

I never used the word "liability". No need for you to make up things. Repeating what i stated about her offense:

Holle can do a lot of things very well; creating her own shot is not one of them. No one can deny she's been struggling with her offense this season; too many games where we are playing 4 on 5 offense as her 3-point shot wasn't falling until she hit one against Mizzou.

And, if you need "facts", at the time of my post after the Mizzou game, Holle as 6-27 from 3-point range in the new year. She's averaging 6.6 ppg, while one year ago she was averaging 7.6 points a game.

Then for the love of god, Mooo, what is your point? You know what? Nevermind. I’m good. Past posts speak volumes. It’s not my board and I’m just here the conversation. That’s what the board is here for. :whiteflag:

As far as I’m concerned “Let Shay Holle Live!!” is a hall of fame worthy post that otherwise might have never happened. :lmao:

If you are going to throw around big words like “facts” then you might want to justify this:

This season, all indications were the Phelia would be a starter over Holle…”

In truth, it’s more factual to state that Vic holds Holle in extremely high regard and her position as a starter was pretty secure. Both are opinions, but mine is much more “objective” and based in fact rather than conjecture.

Honestly, how many times do Vic and the other players have to tell us how amazing Holle is before this board gets the message?
Exactly!

Let's see. You chose to quote/reply to me and completely misinterpreted the parts of my post which I was indicating were "facts", and those which were obviously opinions. Then you state my name and lie that I said Holle was a "liability". Don't twist my words or meanings. If you can't handle my replies to your statements, then don't quote me to begin with since your reading comprehension stinks.

So, one of my goals is better self-awareness...

Texas up to # 1 in the AP Poll. I’d rather not be it’s really of no value right now. Does not drive seedings.

While being #1 doesn't have an immediate benefit, I can see it helping out if we stumble in the SEC tournament. Being #1, it's a given we're a #1 seed in the NCAA playoff. If we were #3 or #4, then if we were to lose to LSU or SC in a rematch during the SEC tournament, it could drop us into a #2 seed. Just saying it's better to be #1 than #2 this close to the end of the regular season.

I’d rather be #1 in the Net and I don’t think the committee puts much stock in the AP Polls. You have a better chance at a # 1 seed if you’re in the Top 4 of the Net than in the AP Poll.

I’m not downplaying Texas being ranked #1 I think it’s fantastic to get that kind of recognition and I’m happy for the team, but I don’t see it being any more of an advantage than #2. Just seems like more pressure and a bigger target without benefits. ND didn’t last long.

If I had a vote, I'd have UCLA #1 and Texas #2. But it really doesn't make a lot of difference.

I wonder if the #1 recruit in the country might be swayed just a tad by perhaps saying…….I’m the #1 player going to play for #1 team in the country? Yup….I’m begging on an Overreaction Monday.

Huge monetary upside in ticket sales, sponsorships, merchandise and especially athlete NIL value. Plus - recruiting upside.

Lordy mercy I merely said it doesnt do all that much today as being ranked #2. Players are very savvy and know what’s up (and what an AP poll means).

Not a particularly great game tonight, but I still get to walk around until at least Thursday with stars twirling around my head, tears in my eyes, and a smile every time I see No. 1 by Texas' name! (I wasn't getting any younger!)

It’s an expansion year for the WNBA which would mean there are more opportunities. Not sure about Rori’s nor Amo’s draft ability, but this would be the year with the greatest chance.
