Texas vs West Virginia 12/01/2024

I stayed up last night and watched the game as a fan then today as a coach and this tape will be hard to watch in the film room. I think a couple of things contributed towards how we played vs wvu 1st the got durn whistle fest refs do better on both sides of the calls frfr this set of refs was suspect. 2nd although wvu quickness ate us up we turned them over quite a bit tbh they would have bet us had they not turned it over so much. 3rd 1st time I can say Holle played bad and it happens but if you going to make the change in the lineup make it now and switch Shay and Phelia. O and 1 bonus Rori has to score vs ND we gone need 14-20 from her to pull it off remember they coming off 2 losses so I expect Ivey to have them more than ready! I wouldn’t be surprised is Hidalgo turns Rori over a couple of times she is that good. It’s wnba backcourts that wouldn’t wanna see those 2

I don't understand Taylor's style of play so far. She's constantly in foul trouble and taking herself out of the game. Oldacre is not faring any better.
Think Taylor is slow/not quick - not exactly the same muscle twitch. Have seen this in the WNBA a lot, when a player is a quarter step behind, a nanosecond behind when raising her arms ... just a tiny bit that you can't see unless you focus on her movement and don't look at the ball or basket. She's ok against shorter and weaker players and appears to be very athletic because she is. But lots of pros and the better college players have a faster twitch, have learned to anticipate movement and can get an arm up to get the call. And, of course you never know when a ref will be awful ...

Pretty much my thoughts exactly.

As mentioned before. She is sooo slow in getting to her spot on the floor to get her shot. Doesnt really matter if its against shorter players. She had 2 shots outright blocked by shorter Butler players amd 2 others that were tipped.

Her best asset is putting rebounds back in. And even then she is nit a very good rebounder.

She does have her moments and I guess thats all we can hope for.

Taylor Jones averages 12 points and 5 rebounds per game. She shoots76%. She does that while averaging only 16 mins per game. What we need is for her to stay out of foul trouble so we can get more minutes out of her.

That hedge on the ball screen up top is getting her in trouble. When there is a lack of quickness, which I feel is present in this case, it can be made up for with good anticipation. She does not seem to be reading and anticipating well.

Not sure why she's having so much trouble with it now, this is her third season in Vic's system. Hopefully she can overcome this because we really need her.

By the way... hedging and recovering in time to keep your player from rolling to the basket for a layup is not an easy task.

She seems to be trying to do too much on the hedge. While Kyla has been shockingly good both an aggressive hedge and good coverage of the passing lane after the hedge.

Honestly, Kyla has just been surprisingly good all around.
