Texas vs UConn

Katie Lou Samuelson looked to be limping slightly but then walked off the court like nothing was wrong. Not sure what that was.

Ariel Atkins picked up her 2nd foul on a really weak call. Texas up 24-21. A little too much standing on offense still at times, but mostly moving the ball very well.

Very proud of the way we played that first half. Didn't score the ball like I would have liked but we did not give up on defense.

I'm worried; we passed better, defended better, and hustled better, and suddenly at halftime we're behind somehow.

Was surprised at how rudimentary UConn's offense seemed, but they execute it precisely and shoot very well, everyone is dangerous from everwhere.

What a beautiful scoop by Brooke to beat the clock. OTOH, Audrey just had a shorter defender pinned under the rim and we took a contested outside shot instead...

Great block by Audrey! Stevens should not have shot that though, if she had just pulled it out they could have run a lot of clock down.

Great game. We didn't win, but did ourselves proud. Everyone played a good game. I was especially impressed with Caron-Goudreau. I think people tend to undervalue her. And great to see Brooke fighting like she did. No complaints. Though we lost, that game will give us a lot of confidence. We can play with UConn, so we can play with anyone.

UConn's movement, especially in the third quarter, was the way to play basketball. All their players were cutting to the basket. We would have won hands down without Stevens' drives to the basket.

We defended well tonight but we will never win the big game with the way we run our offense. If we install a motion offense we would kill teams. Another observation is that we play to the level of our opponent. Where was this team against TCU.

Good game wish Texas would have won. And although there is no moral victories I think this game is a confidence booster for this team. It was also good to see Jatarie have a good game. I believe she will be the determining factor in how well Texas plays this season and how far they’ll go in the tournament.

I disagree. Texas doesn’t have to run a motion offense to win the big games. They just need to run the offense that they run now with better execution. I just think that Texas’ personnel isn’t suited to run that type of offense because they don’t have a lot of players that pass the ball well.

Very good point about not having great passers but its college basketball and movement confuses young players. One on one basketball does nothing but give 4 other players on the opposing team a break.

Well...from her posts on Twitter, if anything, this game may have further solidified Celeste’s commitment.

After being blown out in so many previous UCONN games, Texas has shown it can compete with the elite of the elite - often a question for/about the program. Longhorns have to avoid the TCU-like inexplicable letdowns - see the next game against Tech.

Texas has yet to ANSWER a couple of questions leveled at Karen and hopefully that’s done this season - Big 12 Championship and a Final Four.

I agree, but IMO the biggest thing to have in basketball isn’t necessarily player movement it’s spacing. I would rather Texas be simple in the offense that they run with really good floor spacing and execution than trying to run an offense where you have to have players with really good basketball IQ and can pass the ball well. I would also point out that Texas had more assists than UCONN in this game.
