Texas vs. Texas Tech-Big 12 Tournament

Moreno back for the ninth, for Tech.

Gurwitz, leads off batting right hande
He has had a big day in the field and at the plate today, going 2-2.
A soft fly ball to center will end his perfect day, one down.

Kacy Clemens will pinch hit for Jones, batting lefty.
He can't pitch or play in the field, in the series.
So the arm is still not sound.
He grounds a ball to the hole, on the right side, the first baseman has it, on a dive, but his throw is wide, and Clemens is given an infield hit.

Boswell bats lefty, with one on and one away.
He K's swinging, on a pitch that nearly hit him, that was very strange looking, two gone.

Johnson, at the top of the order, bats righty, with one on and two away.
He has one last shot to do some damage, he is 0-4, in the game.
A pitch behind Ben and to the backstop, sends Clemens to second, in scoring position.
A chance for a huge insurance run.
A one hop single to left and Clemens tries to score, but is cut down, at the plate, to end the inning.
Another huge play goes 7-2.

Three outs to get, Texas leads 2-1, bottom of the ninth.

French tries to go the distance, as the Tech ninth begins.

They were wrong about Clemens, he comes in to play first.

Neslony bat lefty, leading off, for Tech.
A ground ball to second is a big 4-3 first out.

Guteirrez, the power hitting righty, bats with an out.
A high drive to left center, Gurwitz has it on the edge of the track, for an even bigger second out.

Burleson batting righty, with two outs.
A fly to left drops in front of Johnson, for a two out single.
The tying run is on.
Gardner pinch runs for Burleson.

Garcia bats righty, with one on and two outs.
Cantu takes a foul ball of the throwing hand and its taking some time, he's ok.
A flair to center and it falls for another single, two on now.
It's never easy for this team, it seems.

Skip out and he leaves Parker in.

Proudfoot bats righty, two on and two out.
The off speed beauty is taken, on the outside corner, it's a game winning K.

Texas wins 2-1, on a complete game by Parker French, lets take a big breath and talk about it, in a bit.

Where have I heard this before, Texas wins a post season game, on excellent pitching. The winning run is unearned, on a routine ground ball to second, a wild throw was the deciding E-4.

A base running accident, almost hurt Texas, as a run was lost on a slip by Baker, thankfully, it didn't.

Texas advances to tomorrow's winner's bracket game, at 4 pm. I approve of that, no 9 am madness. They will play the winner of the second game today, between TCU and Baylor.

Had to have this game and Texas got it, on the broad shoulder's of ace, Parker French. It's good to see him respond with a game like this. The Horns eke out just enough offense, to win. He beat Tech, in the only game the Horns won, in that series, he does it again.

Maybe the pitching staff, as short handed as it is, will make a run again. It would help, if the bats could give some support. I'll take the wins any way the Horns can get them, at this point. I'm sure we all feel that way.

Be back tomorrow.:hookem2::bevo:

This team has got to be the newest version of the Kardiac Kids. Stay tuned for the news if there is a heart attack. If the pitching stays like today, the heart problem may be in my own chest.

Thanks again NBH . Maybe you are sending some luck to T-T-Tulsa with your posts. Keep up the good work.

Stats and box score, for those that didn't see it. They actually had this reversed, for the entire game, had Texas the home team and losing. I was hoping I could post it, before they changed it, going to say we lost, after all, that rascally Big 12. :smile1:

Makes me happy to beat Tech. Let's keep this up and win the SWC side of the big 12 bracket!

What a job by Parker French! That's the good news.
The bad news is, we are all out of Parker Frenches.
Maybe we can scrape together something to advance a little further.

I guess we scrape up Mayes or Sawyer, for tomorrow. I like Mayes, the freshman have started to really contribute. Why not continue that theme.

Great game by French. TCU is in all sorts of trouble at the moment: 5-5 in the 8th against Baylor. Texas plays winner of this game at around 4 pm CT on Thursday (depends on progress of earlier games that day).

The closer for TCU is wild as a march hare, in the ninth. A walk, two wild pitches, another walk, has runners on the corners and nobody out.

Ferrell is pulled now from the game, he has not blown a save opportunity this season.
His wild pitch in the eighth, tied the game at 5-5.

Baylor takes the lead 6-5, on a SF.

Baylor wins 6-5, the stars and planets are trying to align again!

Texas plays Baylor tomorrow, at 4 pm.

Mayes pitched well against Baylor, Sawyer didn't, I think we have a starter.

KSU wins 7-3 over OU.

This leaves only #2 seed OSU, with a chance to put some chalk up on the blackboard.
They face #7 seed WVU, in the final game of the day.

Tech and OU are trying to play themselves out of a regional bid.

There's a chance we could lose to Baylor, anything looks possible in this Tournament. It was pretty wide open, except one would think, maybe for TCU. Who knows what they are thinking, they are a shoe in for a national seed, no matter what.

I hate having to play a team you just played last week, without French on the mound. Mayes is good, but he is still a freshman. You certainly, wanted to face Baylor, but you have to beat them, for it to matter.

We are still short on pitching, missing two starters, got to stay in the winner's bracket.

Woohoo Baylor !!!

What a day in the Big XII Tournament!

Horns need some Longhorn Baseball magic on Thurs. :hookem:
