Texas vs Texas 8&5 at Basketball

Who do all you naysayers think we should get for a coach, if you don't like Terry?

Grab a coach from one of the Top 10 teams? Who is to say such a coach would even want to come here.

I see this argument for EVERY potential coaching change. Yes it may be an epic failure like the one we're in the middle of now or Charlie Strong or Tom Herman, but maybe we find a Chris Beard without the baggage.

Beard was the guy and we would have been a top 10 team for the next 15-20 or more years. We never should have fired him, but the university caved to pressure without due process that could and should have been dealt with. This argument is no reason to stick with a bad coach.

Beard is not a Top 10 coach. Barnes and Shaka are.

When this year (including tournament) is concluded, then it will be time to evaluate Terry's long-term prospects around here. That seems like a fair timetable in this day and age of the NIL + portal.

We have a history of driving off Top basketball coaches (Barnes #1, Shaka #8). For some reason, some blinded Longhorn fans boil over with hate for those 2, and ignore the objective data -- they are Top 10 coaches and it's not a fluke.

I dont disagree but for some reason Shaka was just not super successful at Texas. Why, I have no idea. Seems like he had all the resources in the world but not much fan support. Not sure what Beard did but he got the stands filled and perhaps it was just excitement at seeing what was being built. CDC will make a good hire, whomever that may be.

And he could stay with Terry. We won't have a fair measurement until the end of this year.

Yeah I have faith in a couple of things:
1. This year's conference slate is a good measuring stick.
2. A $7.2MM buyout isn't that much for a BMD to handle.

Lol, was Shaka and Rick top 10 coaches at Texas? If we base it only off current rankings like you are the answer is no. However Beard was when he was ousted.

Beard just started year 2 in a complete dumpster fire rebuild currently 12-2 with a team who struggled to win 12 every year for a decade. RT took over a top 10 program that BEARD built....oh wait that's right THEY built...and in year two may not make the tourney. The result changes are very stark.

We'll see how things play out when Texas travels to Oxford on 1/29 but if Texas loses that game I think Texas will be dancing in the NIT this year.

Winning big games goes a long way to improve fan excitement and support. Fan support does not translate to successful seasons although it can be a difference maker ina tight home game. Also, Beard engaged the students and fans a lot, I'm not sure I've ever seen RT engage anyone. He doesn't seem like a Rah Rah kind of guy.

Smart left the year that the NIL case ended. If he had stuck around, I'm thinking he has similar success at Texas to Beard, and a better system than what Terry is throwing out there right now.
