Texas vs. Tennessee

I couldn't take another frustrating game, so I was blowing leaves out in the front yard for 2 hours. I came in to my wife and daughter watching with about 4 minutes left. Shocked. But hey, good for them. Will look for the replay.

I'll never forget this game at Knoxville from 2 years ago. It was a huge eye-opener for me in terms of clear and obvious deficiencies of coaching. For some reason Karen agreed to be mic'd up for the game, and everything she was heard to say was just super negative talk at her own players ("You look scared!" "They're trying to give you the game, and you don't want it!"). For me personally it was a turning point from optimism and serious concern.
She spoke the truth. "Tough love" is sometimes what's needed. What did you want her to say to them at that point -- "You're doing great. Keep doing what you're doing" ?

Very good individual performances by Sutton, Higgs, and Underwood. It seemed as though KJH did not expect that, and her team wasn't prepared for it either. Clearly their focus was solely on shutting down Holmes and Collier - which they did. But they obviously didn't take into consideration how just how good our guard play COULD be if it ever started to click. Well, it started clicking today.

From my POV, our freshman, Celeste Taylor, had a more influential and positive impact on the game than Tennessee’s freshman, Jordan Horston, the #1 recruit in the nation.

I love Celeste’s constant hustle and tenacity. She plays without fear but in control.

Is there a website that shows +/- for wbb teams?

Meanwhile this game didn’t even justify coverage in Austin’s hometown paper. Hopefully once CDC has the football coaching hires handled he can focus on women’s basketball.
Former journalist here. FYI, it is now financially and physically impossible to prepare, print and deliver a newspaper, and there's not much profit to hire staff for online news. CdC can't change that, but he might find a way to generate fan interest as he did for football with promotions ... and other decisions that result in team success. (The way to support local coverage is to buy an online subscription and follow WBB on social media, if not already doing so,)

Hey, Moo...I don't need you to critique my posts. I have been following the horns since the mid-90's, so I deserve the right to say what I want. Until today's game, has there really been a lot to crow about other than the Bigs? Nope, thought not. Anyway, you better get to nagging some others because there haven't been very many positive posts in past month.

Tough.

Post freely. I get to reply to your posts freely, even the stupid ones. It's how a message board works.

And, if the shoe fits, wear it.

Never saw this win coming, especially after that lackluster Hawai'i game, but I'll sure take it! WVa beat Miss. State, TCU beat Auburn ... OU? Big 12 had a big weekend, but we've got #1 Stanford up next. :hookem:

So happy for the team! I think the key to the game was PATIENCE on offense. They made it look fairly easy with that. :hookem2:

Watching the UConn Notre Dame game.... halftime from the ESPN studios did a piece on the history of the Texas /Tennessee rivalry. Can someone please write in and tell Andy Landers we were NEVER a part of the Big 8 Conference?
:rolleyes1:

Where the heck has that team been? Played patient and smart. Made the extra pass and overall good shot selection! Not a lot of stupid turnovers. Played patient! But still do not guard the 3 point line very well. Turnovers and guarding the three point line is this team’s biggest weakness. Fortunately Tennessee did not shoot well from the 3 point line!
I was not impressed with Tennessee’s play. It looked like they were used to physically dominating opponents and did not do well when someone actually matched up with them. Now let’s go beat Ohio on Dec. 18th.

I like Coach Nooner standing at the sideline with 5 seconds left in the game and being sure everyone is in the right position. I like Karen allowing him to do so.
I was wondering if maybe Nooner is the one who has gotten the team to use those ball fakes to throw off the defense.

Quick look at the box score:

Texas - 8 turnovers, which TN cashed in for 4 points
TN - 14 turnovers, which Texas cashed in for 14 points

I didn't watch the game, but the fact that Texas had "only" 8 turnovers is boggling.
We were very effective in the half court sets today.

Sug and Lashann amazing. Best game I've ever seen Davenport play. Wow. As others have said, our patience on offense was a huge key. Celeste Taylor has fantastic energy. Only 8 turnovers --- my mind is reeling. That was fun. A lot of the pregame posters must be utterly shocked, had written the game off. I wasn't necessarily expecting a win, but was expecting a good game.

Don't pay attention to that BS... that person is always trying to find someone new to bully. He/she is a coward and only rears their head when there's something to support their opinion. They need to sit down somewhere and STHU... nobody is scared of their attempt at bullying, and I for one don't give a rat's fat @$$ what they have to say. Welcome to the board and please continue to express your opinions freely. This is not Eastern Bloc Europe.

You're just mad because she de-throned you in record time. You're gonna have to work even harder now to earn back your crown.
