Texas vs. TCU Game 3 Season Finale

Pimp Daddy
Thornhill on the mound for Texas vs TCU lefty from Pflugerville Trevor Seidenberger.

No Payton in the line up as his wrist injury from yesterday has worsened and he my not appear again for Texas if he signs.

Augie I believe was actually not thrown from the game last night and is in the dugout today.

Also the video link from game 1 is good for this game as this is the TCU broadcast again being carried on Fox Southwest.

B. Marlow leads off and doubles into the gap in right center.

Hinojosa lines one just over the shortstop and the left fielder boots it and Marlow scores and Hinojosa moves to second on the error.

Texas takes a quick 1-0 lead.

Hinojosa on an errant pick off that trickles into center field watches the center fielder pick it up and then heads for third and is thrown out by a wide margin.

That's the second day in a row that after reaching second in the first inning he makes a base running mistake and is erased. I have no idea what he was thinking here as he looked right at the center fielder pick up the ball and then just took off.

Weis walks and steals second with one away.

Montalbano catching today flies out to center for two away.

Felts at DH today grounds a single up the middle that scores Weis to make it 2-0 Texas and another error on TCU on the throw to the plate moves him to second.

This could have been a big inning without the base running rock by Hinojosa.

Ty Marlow K's swinging to end the inning.

TCU comes to bat trailing for the second day in a row 2-0.

Thornhill out for the last time this season gets the lead off hitter on a fly ball to center for one away.

The next hitter is nailed on the lower leg on the first pitch for TCU's base runner of the game.

A bunt down the third base line is bare handed by Weis and he throws him out for two away.

They give him a sacrifice on that and there is no way it should have been scored that way as he was bunting for hit as he never squared around thus giving yourself up as the meaning of sacrifice.

A big curve is taken for a K that ends the inning.

Texas leads 2-0 after an inning of play.

Stell plays left today leads off the second by flying out to right.

Hall in center K's swinging for out two.

Shaw is in right for Payton, who despite what the clueless TCU announcers was not benched, but has an injured wrist from his catch on a dive yesterday.

Shaw bunts and the first baseman fields and gets the tag on Shaw going by to retire the side. A slide might have gotten him in safely, which is the only time to slide into first base to avoid a tag.

Texas leads 2-0 to the bottom of two.

Thornhill in the second gets the lead off man on a fly to left for one away.

A ground ball up the middle is fielded and in shallow center by B. Marlow, but his throw is late and it's an infield hit.

A flair to right center falls for another single to put runners on first and second with one out.

A very shallow fly to right is caught by Shaw who is playing in because of the wind blowing in is out two.

Another K this time swinging on that change retires the side.

Texas leads 2-0 after two innings.

B. Marlow leads off the third with a liner very much like he did in the first to the gap in left center and it's another double.

Hinojosa goes the other way with a inside out swing and the grounder goes through on the right side.

B. Marlow scores to make it 3-0.

Weis lays down a sac bunt and Hinojosa moves to second.

The TCU coach is out with a hook and a pitching change is made.

A righty named Crichton comes in to face Montalbano with one out and a runner on second in Hinojosa.

Montalbano grounds out to short as Hinojosa holds at second for two away.

Felts flies to right tor end the inning.

Texas now leads 3-0 to the bottom of three.

Thornhill in the third gives up a liner to the opposite field for a single for the lefty hitter.

A hard one hopper to second becomes an easy 4-6-3 double play for two away.

A liner right at Hinojosa retires the side.

Texas leads 3-0 after three.

Ty Marlow leads off the fourth and lines one to first for the first out.

Stell one hops a ground ball to third for two away.

Hall K's swinging again on a pitch this time a foot outside.

Texas leads 3-0 to the bottom of the fourth.

Thornhill out for the fourth gives up a fisted shot to left for a single.

A hit and run comebacker results in an out as the runner moves to second.

A K swinging is out two as the big righty just kept swinging at pitches low and away.

A pick off play at second is close, but he was back safely because the throw was directly on the bag and caught by Hinojosa there not allowing the tag before the runner's hand got back in.

Another big change up is a K swinging that retires the side.

Texas leads 3-0 after four complete.

Shaw leads off the fifth by striking out looking for one away.

B. Marlow up again with two doubles so far today this time flies out to center for two away.

Hinojosa again goes the oppo way as he lines one to right for a single his third hit of the day and probably assures he will finish with a batting average above .300.

Weis rolls one to short to retire the side.

Halfway home in the last game of the season for Texas and they lead 3-0.

Thornhill in the fifth tries to qualify for the win and a hopper to Weis on a full count pitch is out one.

A bunt is pushed just right down the third base line and Thornhill fields and throws off balance but not nearly in time as it's an infield hit.

A hit and run grounder to second is out two as the runner moves to second.

A slow ground ball toward short and Weis dives in front of Hinojosa, C.J. fields it and spins but there is no play and it's another infield hit to put runners on the corners with two away.

A ground ball behind third is fielded by Weis and his long and accurate throw is just in time to save a run and retire the side.

The play was even better than I thought as the replay shows the ball hit the bag and Weis fielded it with his bare hand and then made the throw.

Texas leads 3-0 after five innings.

Montalbano leads off the sixth with a line drive to left for a single to put a runner at first.

Felts at DH in this game can't get the sac bunt down and then K's looking for out one.

Ty Marlow lines one to right center and the center fielder makes a running and diving catch to rob him of extra bases to record the second out.

A wild pitch moves Montalbano to second.

Stell grounds out to short to end the inning.

To the bottom of six and Texas leads 3-0

Thornhill out for the sixth and please TCU announcers did you not see Payton hurt his wrist last night. It is worse today and that is why he is not playing. Do some research and get a clue.

Thornhill gets a running catch in center by Hall for out one.

A one hop liner up the middle is fielded by B. Marlow and he stumbles but makes the play for out two.

A weak pop up is caught by the third base line by Thornhill and for the first time today he literally retires the side in order.

Texas leads still 3-0 after six played.

Hall leads off the seventh by flying out to center and here comes the TCU coach to make another pitching change.

The new TCU pitcher is left hander Travis Evans from Round Rock who comes in to face lefties Shaw and B. Marlow.

Shaw grounds out to second for out two.

B. Marlow hops one that the third baseman cuts off and thows him out to retire the side in order.

Texas leads 3-0 to the stretch.

Thornhill in the seventh opens things up with a weak pop to second for out one.

A lazy high fly ball to center is out two.

A four pitch walk puts a runner on with two away.

Interesting that there has been no mound visits today by whoever is serving as the pitching coach. Skip always made two or three mound trips no matter how well a pitcher is going. Skip not around for this game after his ejection yesterday.

A sharp one hopper to Ty Marlow at the bag as he was holding the runner on is out three.

Texas leads 3-0 after seven completed.

Hinojosa leads off against another new pitcher for TCU a righty named Ferrel.

HInojosa is retired on the first pitch for the first time today on a grounder to short.

Yay, the TCU announcers have finally found out that Payton is injured and that is why he is not in the line up.

Weis K's swinging on an inside breaking ball for out two.

Montalbano lines one to left that is caught by the left fielder as he goes to his knees to make the play and retires Texas in order.

Bottom of eight coming with Texas leading 3-0.

Thornhill still in there as we may try to squeeze out a complete game with Knebel also not eligible after his ejection yesterday.

His first hitter of the inning grounds out to second for one away as he goes over the 100 pitch mark.

A soft liner to Stell in left is out two.

Thornhill still with command of that big change K's the next man swinging to retire the Frogs in order.

Eight in the books and Texas leads 3-0 and I can think you can look for Thornhill in the ninth to try to close it out.

Felts leads off the ninth and hopefully the last at bat for Texas this season by going the other way through the hole on the right side for a single.

Ty Marlow with the sac bunt moves Felts to second with one away.

Stell bats as the TCU announcer is running up the white flag saying the game is over which is interesting. I would thing that a starting pitcher in the ninth over 100 pitches and no closer in the pen might leave some doubt.

Stell pop up to second for out two.

Hall grounds one up the middle and the shortstop fields and throws wide to first, but the tag is made to get what is hopefully the last out recorded by a Texas batter this season.

Texas leads 3-0 as we go to the bottom of the ninth in the last game of the year.

Thornhill still out there as expected is working exclusively from the stretch as maybe it saves energy instead of a windup or just feels more comforable to him

Another soft liner to left is out one.

A pinch hitter, a senior who doesn't play much for TCU is up on senior day for TCU.

He grounds out to second for two away.

Another senior is pinch hitting with little playing time for TCU and he grounds out to Weis at third to end the game and the season for Texas on a winning note.

Texas wins the game 3-0 and it's probably poetic justice that the Horns end the year by losing a series 1-2 with the only win a complete game shutout.

Texas had the sixth best era in the nation at 2.69 before the game and that is even lower now.

So it's time to go out and recruit, then recruit, and then recruit some more and get some hitters on this team.

As I have said early and often that is what got us in the position we are in and that is what will get us out of it.

Have to see who comes back from Payton, Weis, Thornhill, and Felts who are draft elegible. I think Thornhill may be drafted high enough to go.

Payton has a chance, but it's hard to say with his lack of size and power.

Weis hurt his draft with the late slump, but still might get an opportunity.

Felts is a catcher and that works to his advantage and again will have to see what happens.

Knebel is gone and probably can't wait to go.

So it ends and I must go rest my fingers as they have had a long hard season on a now very used keyboard.

Baseball is a great game and Texas has a long proud history in it and needs to get back to it's winning ways as soon as possible.
