Texas vs TCU Game 1

So it's the last series of the season with a slim chance of making the Conference Tournament on the line.

In pennant race terms Tech has a magic number of two to clinch the last tourney birth. Tech has Baylor at home and Texas on the road at TCU.

Any combinations of Tech wins or Texas losses that add up to two and Tech goes. So it could happen tonight or not at all depending on the how these series go.

It's hard to imagine that Baylor can sweep Tech in Lubbock and if Tech wins even one game we would have to sweep TCU in Fort Worth to have any chance.

It's the first series Texas has played at TCU since 1996.
One thing that has been discussed is that the TCU coach says that his starting pitchers won't go real deep in these games because of the Tournament starting on Wendsday. The reasoning being that they need to save arms to try to win the Big 12 Tournament as they beieve and probably rightly so to make a Regional

This might help out Texas somewhat possibly and we need all the help we can get.

As Elgin stated this game is televised on Direct and it's on Dish on channels 443, 436, and 437.

I have a working stream for those without these options.

The Link

This is the same broadcast that is on television which is the TCU broadcast.

B. Marlow leads off the game for Texas by grounding out to second.

Payton lays down a bunt down the third base line and beats it out for a hit.

Weis grounds to second and a 4-6 FC is out two.

HInojosa with Weis at first K's swinging to retire the side.

No score as TCU comes to bat.

baylor at tech is also available on directv channel 623

baylor - rbi double in the top of first, 1-0 , runner advances to 3rd on throw to plate.

tech rightie pitches out of a jam, after giving up 2 hits and 2 walks, bu only scores one in the first.

French as usual gets the start in the first game of the series and the lead off many bunts down the third base line very much like Payton's and he gets a hit out of it also as Felts can't make the play.

A pop to second is the first out with a runner at first.

The runner steals second he got a good jump and it was not a good pitch to throw on for Felts.

A fly ball to left is out two, but the runner tags and moves to third as the relay throw is just late.

A check swing excuse me flair to center drops for a hit and scores the run to make it 1-0.

A ground out 4-6 is the third out.

TCU leads 1-0 after an inning.

Felts leads off the second with a fly out to center.

Montalbano at DH tonight grounds to third for out two.

Ty Marlow grounds out to first to end the inning.

Texas goes in order against the TCU righty Morrison that has an era of 1.32 in conference play.

Bottom of two with TCU leading 1-0.

French in the second K's the lead off hitter swinging for out one.

French hits the next man on the first pitch to put a man on first.

Another K swiinging is out two.

Another K swinging means French stikes out the side and ends the inning.

TCU leads after two innings of play 1-0.

Stell leads off the Texas third by flying out foul down the right field line for out one.

Hall K's looking on a pitch right down the midlle for the second out.

B. Marlow grounds out to third as Texas goes down in order again.

TCU leads 1-0 to the bottom of three.

French starts the third with a pop out to third.

The next batter grounds to third for out two.

A two out four pitch walk puts a man on first as TCU has had a base runner every inning so far.

Two more balls brings a visit from Skip to the hill.

Then after six straight balls delivered you think the batter might be taking a strike, but no and he grounds out to short to end the inning.

TCU leads 1-0 after three complete.

Payton leads off the fourth with a ground out to first .

Weis hits a soft liner to short for out two.

HInojosa flies to right to retire the side as he becomes the tenth consecutive out for Texas.

TCU leads 1-0 to the bottom of four.

French out for the fourth and another bunt is laid down and the throw hits the runner and he is called out for running inside the base running line. Out comes the TCU coach to argue.

The ball and the runner arrived at the same time and the runner ran into Ty Marlow and the call stands for the first out.

A little comebacker to French is out two.

A grounder to second and with the help of the interference call TCU goes down in order for the first time.

TCU leads 1-0 after four innings.

Felts leads off the fifth and pops up to short for out one.

Montalbano grounds out to short for out two.

Ty Marlow grounds out to short to end the inning and retire the side again in order.

Halway through the game we have a bunt single and TCU leads 1-0.

Texas losing 1-0. There is a shocking scoreline

French out for his fifth inning of work gets a shallow fly ball to cente for out one.

A walk puts a man on with one away.

Another walk on four pitches puts two on with one out.

A ground ball to third and it's a 5-4 FC for the second out as B. Marlow drops the ball on the transfer to his throwing hand.

Runners on the corners with two away.

A hard ground ball by HInojosa in the hole scores a run to make it 2-0.

Runners at first and second now and out comes Skip, but French stays in.

A K swinging ends the inning, but the walks are a killer.

TCU leads now 2-0 after five and Tech leads Baylor 4-2 in the fourth at Lubbock.

Stell leads off the sixth with a ground ball to deep short, but is thrown out on a strong throw for out one.

Hall K's swinging on ball four inside for out two.

B. Marlow grounds out to first unassisted for the third out and Texas goes in order again and I have lost count of the consecutive out string now for Texas, but it's a lot.

TCU leads 2-0 to the bottom of six.

French still out there in the sixth and a K swinging on a breaking pitch in the dirt as Felts completes the put out with a throw to first.

French hits the next batter on a full count to puit a man on.

A ground ball up the middle as the runner goes and Marlow can't judge the hop and it goes through for a hit.

Runners on first and second with one away.

A pitch in the dirt gets away and the runner goes to third, but the runner on first hesitates and is thrown out at second.

A ground ball to short ends the inning.

TCU leads 2-0 after six and Texas better start scoring as Tech now leads 8-2 in the fourth in Lubbock or the season as far as post season ends tonight.

Payton grounds one into the hole on the right side and it's an infield hit to break a seventeen consecutive out streak since Payton's bunt single.

Weis grounds into a 4-6-3 double play for two away.

Hinojosa flies to shallow center to retire the side.

TCU leads 2-0 as we go to the stretch and the season grows ever shorter.

French out for the seventh gives up a lead off single to center.

A sac bunt moves the runner to second with one away.

A double down the line in left makes it 3-0 and that just about does it I think for this game for French and making the Tournament.

Ty Marlow comes in to pitch now as French leaves.

By the way Tech has scored six runs so far in the fourth and is still batting leading Baylor now 10-2.

Marlow's first hitter with man now on third as the runner steals third.

A liner in the gap in left center is another double to make it now 4-0 and its seems every bit as big or bigger a lead than Tech's now 11-2 lead in Lubbock.

Another liner this time to the gap in right center is yet another double and it's now 5-0.

A long fly ball to left and Stell makes an over the shoulder catch to save another extra base hit for out two.
The runner tagged and moved to third on the play.

A walk puts runners on the corners with two down.

A K looking ends the inning, but the damage is done.

TCU leads 5-0 after seven innings of play and Tech leads Baylor 11-2 in the fifth.

Felts leads off the eighth and K's swinging for out one.

Silver now at first bats for the first time and flies out deep to the track in left for out two.

Stell with a comebacker to the mound to retire the side in order again.

Bottom of eight now TCU leads 5-0.

TURN OUT THE LIGHTS!!!! Sadly, Augie still gets a "pass" for his past resume. Would Mack get the boot with a last place finish in the B12?!? I think even DeLoss could not protect Mack from that lynch mob!!!

Bellow comes in to pitch the eighth and a sharp ground ball to first off Silver goes 3-1 for one away.

Another shot to second that goes off the chest fof B. Marlow and he recovers and throws him out by a step for out two.

I hope we get this third out before one of our infielders gets killed.

A pop up foul down the first base line and it almost happened as B. Marlow slides to make the catch barely missing Payton and Silver in what would have been quite a collision to end the inning.

Going the the top of the ninth and three outs till next year TCU leads 5-0.

NB thanks for all the updates! This season has well and truly sucked but you kept faith and kept in updating. Thanks!

TCU brings in a righty reliever and Stell leads off by grounding out to short as he launches the bat over the TCU dugout on the swing. Our hitters do strange things.

Shaw pinch hits now and he gets the first walk issued to Texas of the night.

B. Marlow up and deep fly ball to center goes over the center fielder's head and it's a double that scores Shaw to make it 5-1.

For some reason known only to him and maybe his coach the TCU center fielder was playing very shallow which makes no sense in that situation and it cost him and TCU.

Payton is hit by a pitch in the dirt on the foot and it puts two on.

TCU tried to skate by on a marginal reliever in the ninth and it didn't work. Here comes the TCU coach and I bet this reliever is of a better quality.

Weis with two on hits a slow roller to short and the shortstop charges and nips Weis on the throw for two away.

Runners move up to second and third and the lefty brought in to face Weis is now removed for a righty to face Hinojosa.

Hinojosa is the last hope for Texas with runners at second and third and the submariner right hander ties him up in knots as he K's swinging to end the game.

TCU wins 5-1 and with Tech leading Baylor 11-2 in the seventh it's just a matter of time to the post season window slams shut.

Same old story for this game and the whole season. This team besides Payton, Weis and sometimes Hinojosa can't hit a lick and till that is fixed by recruiting nothing will change.

We will have another very good pitching staff next year that hopefully includes a healthy John Curtis.

Schiraldi and Clemens are possible too if they don't sign.

I'm glad that some of you found these updates entertaining through the season. I hadn't planned on doing every game, but it turned out that way somehow.

Two games left in this season and I will try to close it out by doing the updates for them.

Hall, Carter, McElroy, Ty Marlow, and Moynihan were all JC tranfers in their first season this year.

Moynihan was here last year, but didn't qualify to be able to play.

It will be hard to bring in more JC guys without some of these guys leaving. We had two seniors Steinhagen another JC guy that barely played and Marsh who never played except for that at bat on senior day.

We have some recruits if we can get in school that could make a difference if they come in like Gurwitz, McGuire, Barrera, and Boswell.

Also who leaves such as Payton, Weis, Felts and few others will determine going out and getting JC guys.
