Texas vs. Stanford Game 3

Hall leads off with a single. Walla with the sac bunt
Weis and Payton can't score him and another runner left
stranded in scoring position.

Stanford with a single, double and a ground out against Thornhill
produces a run and like all weekend they jump out to a lead 1-0
after an inning.

Hinojosa singles to lead off.

The expected bunt is popped up caught by the pitcher and he
doubles up Hinojosa at first.

Fly ball ends the half inning.

Stanford 1-0 bottom of the two.

Another lead off single for Stanford, but Thorny retires them in
order after that.

Stanford 1-0 after two complete.

Three walks with one out load the bases for Texas and Weis
grounds out to first to score a run.

Then Payton grounds out to end the inning.

One run on no hits ties the game at 1-1 to the bottom of the
third..

Stanford with a one out single, but a 4-6-3 dp ends the inning.

Tied at 1 after 3 complete.

Two singles for Stanford had runners on 1st and 3rd, but Hinojosa
makes a strong throw from deep in the hole at short to end the
inning and keep the score tied at 1-1 after 4 complete.

Texas down in order in the fifth.

Stanford has a freshman righty on the mound that is sort of wild,
but we can't hit him like all the other Stanford pitchers.

Halfway through the game tied 1-1.

Yet another lead off single for Stanford.

This time as the batter strikes out he is also called for interference
on the steal attempt for a double play.

Then a fly ball ends the inning.

Tied at 1 after five.

Thornhill hits a batter with two outs and then gets a fly ball to
end the inning.

Still tied at 1-1 after six complete.

Texas down in order again and that's ten in a row retired for
the Stanford freshman.

Tied at 1 to the stretch.

Knebel comes in to pitch in the 7th and retires the first two
Stanford hitters.

Then a triple off Payton's glove at the wall, but then a fly ball
to Payton ends the inning.

Still tied at 1-1 through 7 innings.

It would be nice to take this final game of the series. Would take the sting out of the 1st two losses.

Texas down in order again, now 13 straight retired.

Two singles in 8 innings off a freshman.

Whether it's Appel or a freshman we just can't hit at all.

Bottom of the 8th tied at 1-1.

It would be nice to get a hit at this point.

Knebel retires the side in order.

Top of the 9th tied at 1-1.

Stanford brings in a big lefty to start the 9th.

After two outs the Stanford right fielder drops Payton's liner
for an error that breaks the out string at 15.

Hinojosa pops out to start another one though and end the inning.

Bottom of 9 now tied at 1-1.

Knebel till we win or lose it seems.

One out single and then a double ends the game and Stanford
wins 2-1 and sweeps the series again this year just like last
season.

It's deja vu all over again as Yogi says and the same things
that haunted Texas last year are right back again.

It's hard to watch them just make out after out and if we do get runners on strand them.

In short "we stunk at the Sunk" for the second time.

Now a four game losing streak.

not a good weekend. better bounce back with some clutch hitting or the season can get ugly quick.
