Geez, tough loss. A sloppy one, too. Still, one they had a chance to pull out but they lost track of players a couple of times allowing easy FGs when they really needed stops. Lindsey, Carla and Brit had five TOs apiece. That’s rather uncharacteristic. Earnie had the second most FG attempts for the game, really uncharacteristic. Ten assists for the game with Carla only getting two is definitely not moving the ball around to find the open shot. The 3pt shooting was not there this game. But it hasn’t been there before. What was surprising was the inability to get to the FT line in this game. As well as the Horns shoot FTs, if they get to the line, they win this game. SDSU is a very good team with a couple of outstanding guards. Looks like they kept the Horns from penetrating. Someone mentioned that they were a second tier team. Sorry, but I don’t buy that. They may not be ranked but they have a strong shot at being in the NCAAs. They don’t have the depth of Texas but this night, that was not a factor with four starters playing 34 plus minutes each and the other 25 minutes due to foul trouble. As for TOs, 23 is way too many, but before this game, they were averaging 16.5 a game, after this game, they are up to 17.1. Not great and plenty of room to improve but not a disaster when they were forcing 20.9 TOs before this game and forced 19 to fall to an average of 20.8 TOs forced.
Seems like the team just wasn’t clicking together this game. This may have been their worst game offensively this season. They had trouble covering the 3 but otherwise were very tough to score against. There is a lot of stuff for the coaches to talk about. But the Horns are 11-1 with a home game against Lamar before starting Big 12 play. I will be surprised if the team drops out of the top 10.
