Re: Texas vs. Rice Game 3

The new Rice pitcher is lefty John Williamson a senior.

He comes in to face lefty hitting Shaw who steps in with one on and one down.
He grounds to third by the bag and goes to second and throws it into right field. The error puts runners on the corners. Now they rule it a fielder's choice.

Hinojosa bats as the tying run with one down, but has struggled at the plate.
He grounds to short and the 6U-3 double play ends the Texas threat.
Side retired.

Big inning there for Rice and to the bottom of eight they lead 5-2.

He swings at a pitch in the dirt and a foot outside for one away.

Barrera of the long homer his last at bat for the only Texas runs is up again.
He pops up to short and that's two down.

A fly ball to center ends the game.

Rice gets the win 5-2 and the sweep of the DH.

Rice improves to 2-1 on the season and Texas falls to 1-2.

A long bad day in Houston for the Horns and let's give the fingers a rest and be back to summarize and get ready for tomorrow.

Re: Texas vs. Rice Game 3

It wasn't exactly the "Valentine's Day Massacre" but the results was the same.

Young unexperienced pitching got hit hard as Texas looks for a starting rotation. The offense is still not good for the most part striking out on bad pitches and leaving men on base.

Right now, it looks like last season as Texas seems to mostly win when the pitching is air tight and with great defense.

Rice is good, but the Horns helped them out, especially; in the first game.

The season is young and experiments on the field are still being made. The problem is this is against a big rival in Rice in a series with a ranked team and now you really need to win tomorrow with Hollingsworth on the mound. He is coming back from some surgery, so who knows if he is the same pitcher from last season yet.

Losing three games in this series would be a bad start to the year. It would be even worse after you had won the first game.

A freshman in Salinas just shut us down and was probably left in an inning too long.

So tomorrow at 1pm Texas needs to come out with some ergency even if it's early in the season.

These double dips are hard on the typing fingers and puts a real crimp in your Saturday. I need to rest them and get something to eat and drink and come out with some new vigor myself.
