Texas vs OU

Take a troll to know one and the fact you were missing from here for months is telling. Grow up nut job.

4-4 oooooooh

Favorite moment in the game - Nekia's perfect 3/4 court pass to Arial at the end of regulation. Arial was so close! Had that shot gone in, we would still be talking about it 30 years from now! Wow that girl has an arm. I hope she crushes it when track&field comes around!

Something for everyone last night. Both Ariel and Brooke started and played lots of minutes for those clamoring for the youth movement -oh and they did show us the future. Imani started and looked a lot like the Imani of old. Brady played the second most minutes on the team. Empress was a difference maker at the end of the fist half and in overtime. She played with tremendous fire. On to TCU!

Glad to get the win yesterday. As disappointing as the loss was to ISU on Sunday, folks need to remember that losing Nneka was going to result in an adjustment period all the way around. While I still think we should have beaten ISU, I'm glad the team was able to put that loss behind them and focus on OU.

What I saw last night was a move in the right direction on so many fronts.

- Brooke and Ariel have to be on the floor as much as possible, and they were

- Coaches went with a much shorter bench last night, which usually happens in a tight game. But, no Henderson or Foman was surprising just based on prior playing time. Doesn't look like Diani or Lilly are going to get in the games much, even with not much depth behind Nneka

- When a player fouls, I do think they need to be taken out of the game so they don't pick up an additional one quickly; granted, the clock has a lot do with that, and each player is different, but the risk of picking up that additional foul is big, IMO

- Ariel seems to be on her way to accepting a lot more responsibility as both a scorer and a leader

- Never seen a guard who gets called for more charging fouls than Empress; just doesn't seem to have learned the required lessons

- Brianna missed a few early shots that probably affected her confidence on the offensive end; she didn't play much after that

- Kelsey was solid. Glad to see her shooting from the outside. Still needs to finish better around the rim, though.

- Imani was huge for us on both ends. Thought she was fouled several times while shooting, but didn't get the calls.

- Brady had one of her best games in a long time. Happy for her, and we needed her energy and scoring.

- Nekia still shows moments of brilliance; but fouls don't allow her to get into any flow

- I said this after our OU loss, but I look at OU's roster and there really isn't a single player that I would want in a Texas uniform. Yet, somehow, they play very well together and win. They are well-coached, and I think Coale does a great job of understanding each player's strengths and using them for the better of her team.

Moo.......lots of good observations. The biggest changes to me were shortening the rotation and who was in the rotation. Using depth in non-conference can be effective; however, in conference you need to go with your best players most of the time. All it takes is a few minute stretch where the bench players are ineffective and the game is lost. There is little margin for error. The second is going with McCarty and Atkins and Stafford. We have endured point guards for what seems like decades that just scare you to death when trying to push the ball. You just knew that they were going to throw the ball away by making bad decisons. McCarty is the first one in a very long time that correctly sees the situation and pullls it back out if not advantage or too risky. She played 49 minutes last night with only one turnover. Amazing since she was the primary ball handler. Went 2-9 but the three and the floater were critical shots. I sure hope she is not the one someone said was "rolling her eyes" while on the bench and coach was speaking. Atkins' ankle must be close to well. Not only was she the high scorer with 21, she made a huge impact defensively. Stafford is much better starting and maybe is fully well now. Huge decisions. Glad coach and/or assistants made those adjustments. I always feel for the girls that now will see their minutes reduced; however, it wasnt working with free substitutions. I am going to see TCU/Horns Sunday. I hope my preacher realizes I was at the early service as the tip-off is noon in Ft Worth. Hope any other Horns fans around DFW will come and support the Ladies.

Didn't realize we had 17 assists compared to OU's 8 assists. And, McCarty accounted for 8 or ours. So, she has more then established herself as the PG who should see the most court minutes.

Does anyone recall the first time Empress entered the game? She only played 25 minutes, and I don't believe she entered the game until the second half; if so, I wonder if there was some sort of suspension or point being made.

Coach A said in the post-game that she needs to put the players on the court who can put the ball in the basket:

NOTE RE: TCU Game...no tickets in advance, you can show up an hour early and see what GA tickets are left...venue is VERY small, only 1200 seats, and will be 90% TCU fans..or more.

This is the same arena where TCU women play volleyball. We went to a UT/TCU match two years ago. The place is awful. Most high school gyms put this place to shame. Wooden bleachers, like your high school, and not nearly enough of them. If you do get in though you will be close to the action.

With the possible exception of John Boehner, Seattle4UT might be the most miserable man in the contry.

To add a few comments to Moo¡¦s astute observations:

Horns got off 76 shots when they normally take 59, OU took 70 where they usually play slow and average 56 shots a game. It was pretty fast paced game with Texas making 43% , up from their usual 37%. Meanwhile, OU dropped from 46% to 41%.

Brady and Ariel had double figure FG attempts with three others on the cusp with 8 (Kelsey) and 9 (Brooke & Imani). Three players hit at least 50% of their shots: Kelsey (4-8), Imani (6-9) and Empress (5-7). Brady¡¦s 43% (6-14)was better than Ariel¡¦s 41% (7-17) but Ariel got the FT line 8 times, making 7. Ariel showed a knack for getting to the FT in this game. Hope that continues.

In a 50 minute game, Brooke played 49 minutes, Brady 48 and Ariel 40. The rotation was pretty tight: eight players had at least 10 minutes with two others seeing action for five and three minutes.

Our three point shooting was nothing to brag about (2-13, 15.4%) but Brady (1-5) and Brooke (1-5) hit timely 3s in the second half to help counter OU¡¦s . Ariel missed on all three of her treys although she was 50% (3-6) from BTA in OOC games.

Horns didn¡¦t lose this at the FT line for a change. They got there 24 times vs their average of 17 FT attempted per game and hit on 16 to counter OU¡¦s 18-23 performance.

It was a small crowd but they were really into it, especially in the second half and OT periods. One of the most enjoyable games I attended. Winning was the cherry on top.

Classy of Coach Coale to go over to Nneka who was sitting at the end of the Texas bench and give her a hug.

Ortiz is a heck of a find at PG for OU. Texas has a pretty good one in Brooke.

OU fans on their board are claiming that the refs gave us this game. As if. ļ
They need to learn to count, saying that seven OU players fouled out when only four did. Horns had one foul out and two with four fouls and three with three.
