Texas vs Northern Iowa

Apparently the Big 12 is VASTLY over-rated....

I will admit to picking Northern Iowa in my now abused office pool.

16-2 in free throws decides the game. A lot of these are on us, but not all of them. Refs are just crap. Making sure our bad play buries us so bad there is no chance. You can't come back when the other team is going to shoot free throws every time down the court.

Can't believe Taylor is the only one keeping us in this. Someone else needs to step the **** up.

UNI's run from the 16:03 to the 6:42 mark was more epic than our run to close out OU at home. Couldn't miss a damn thing. Taylor finally started getting us back in it, but by then, Shaq Cleare showed just how valuable he was. I anticipate him not leaving the bench forever unless Ridley and Ibeh both foul out.

Felix just kills me with that airball 3. Good grief we work so hard to get back in the game and then do that. And he's a Sr.

Talk about Jekyll and Hyde. Other guys finally getting in the action. UNI looks more confused than we did in the first half whenever their coverage breaks down on the perimeter. And UNI only has that 3-pointer in the last 9 minutes of playing time.

Wouldn't have been an issue if Shaq Cleare had never stepped into the game and cost us at least 10 points with his lost offensive possessions and horrible D.

Hope Texas is proud of themselves... No time should the University of Texas ever lose to a "Northern Iowa."

Texas deserves better than this crap

Lose to Iowa St. in FBall and N. Iowa in BBall. Please kill the ESPN deal now. We made a deal with the devil and the sports world has crapped on us ever since.

First of all, UNI isn't exactly chopped liver in the college basketball world. They beat #1 seed KU a little while ago. That was a hail mary, and I think we could have taken them in overtime. Smart definitely has the program on a good track and has a chance to restock with his type of players now. We'll have some growing pains in 2017 to be sure, but I think we're going to be a force to be reckoned with.

It's the manner in which we totally **** the bed in the first half that has me upset. Smart didn't have a clue about how to control the ball for a 10-minute stretch when we went from 7 points up to 16 points down in a few blinks. Ridley and Cleare were getting abused and he refused to play any zone. We need to be able to hit the open shots a little better.

Northern Iowa has beat some very good teams this year. Their three senior guards played smart, hit the free throws, and their front court scores from outside as well as inside. They are tough as hell to defend. They are a good team and no reason to be ashamed to lose to them.

And Harry, I hope the team is proud of themselves too. They should be. I'm serious, and unlike you, I'm not being sarcastic. They hung in after Cam's injury, finished strong in the B12, and played with heart tonight. Cam was too rusty to be a factor in the game. When your front court scores less than 10 points its going to be tough to win. Ibeh isn't a scorer, Cam's injury effectively finished him, and Cleare was a terrible match up with their quicker bigs.

Damn right I'm disappointed as hell. Sick with disappointment.

But our two freshmen guards will take us to the promised land before they leave. Shaka will recruit to his system. Very good things are in this team's future.

Two of those very good teams were Iowa State and North Carolina, but feel free to keep comparing them to the Iowa State football team.

Ibeh once again getting into early foul trouble really hurt, we played well defensively with him on the floor. He prevented the drives for the most part and even got out on the three point shooters, altering their shots.

A healthy Ridley could have abused Northern Iowa inside, but he isn't close to healthy. Texas is a flawed team, without every weapon available to them, they are inconsistent. That's why they were only a slight favorite in this game. It would have been the only game they would have been favored, in the tournament.

The roster on this team will be changing heavily over the next few seasons.
